    Your cat names

    Let's hear them!

Looks like after several years of solid and persuasive PR work by my daughter, my wife's finally come round to the idea of us getting a cat. So of course we've already had our first argument about what to call it..

It may well come with a name already if we get a rescue, but if we can't I think we may struggle to all agree on something.

    What are yours called?

Ginger, because he’s ginger. A feral tom cat who adopted us after the last of our British Blues died, they were called Archie and Hector.

We’ve had a few, my favourite was Kong... Kitten Kong, named after the Goodies episode when I was a kid, needs to be a white cat though.

We also had Crunch, Tooks, Marmalade, Judy and Charlie.

My wife likes collecting abandoned animals, so other than me there is/was

Ronnie - No longer with us. Got him as a kitten, there were 2 in the litter left, other one was Reggie
Ruby - Came to us with that name, we kept it
    Boris - Crazy hair
Alice - Came to us with that name, we weren't meant to keep her, came to stay for a week, dropped a litter of kittens in my sons bedroom cupboard on day 3, i did the midwife bit on the last 3 after hearing the squeaks from the first 2, didn't even know it was pregnant. Kittens went to a rehoming place, we ended up keeping Alice

2 Dogs too, Bobby & Billy

When I was about 7 my mum and dad got a cat and I never liked the name so referred to it as Swizzle Stick after the sweet. I then shortened it to Swizzle and finally Swizz. 43 years on and every cat I’ve ever had has been called Swizz (except now as I have two, so one of them isn’t).

Strangely its a name that has stuck with a few of my mates growing up and if they ever see a cat they’d call it a Swizz!

    Brennan.

That was the name he was given at the shelter we picked him from. I persuaded the lass processing the registration paperwork to expand that to be 'Bishop Len Brennan'.

It worked, that's what's announced when we take him the vets or have to speak to the insurance company to renew his policy.

No longer have a cat, but when we did she was called Smut due to a black 'smut' on her nose. She became affectionately know as Gutless though, due to her ability to empty her guts anytime anywhere without warning!
    Best Regards - Peter

I'd hate to be with you when you're on your own.

We were adopted by Charlotte about 13 years ago, over that time it morphed a few times, Charlie Bagamule, Charlie Moo and then just Maio.

Sadly we had to have put to sleep the second day of lockdown.

Ours is called Wilbur - no idea why. These days he is often referred to as ‘Fatty’ cos of his appetite, altho the kids are adamant he is just body positive. I reckon he is comfort eating cos of lockdown and all the pesky humans that are in his house

Bob Mortimer, on Twitter, has som excellent cat names.

Maxine and Holly- Maxine is 19 now and doing well but she’s always been a vicious thing, mind you she was dumped when pregnant as a very young cat and we got her from a rescue centre once the kittens had found homes.
Holly is another rescue cat that we got for our then 3 year old daughter as Maxine (or Maxi as we’ve always called her) was far to unpredictable For our daughter to play with. Holly was called Elvis when we got him close to that Christmas 7 years ago, however my daughter renamed him and at 3 years of age Holly was her best idea!!... he’s always just called “Hols” but my mother in law still insists on calling him “ her” or “ she” given that Holly is a girls name !
I’ve had loads of cats over the years and most have lived in excess of 15 years- Oliver was a family favourite and so gentle, he was always wanting more food as a youngster hence the name.
I had a ginger and white rescue cat called Parsley, lovely lad and despite being a rescue kitten I loved the name they had given him at the centre.
Whilst they can be a pain, always under your feet, often digging the carpet or randomly throwing up I simply can’t imagine not having at least one in the house.

This little thing is called Hobbes.

It’s the one name we all agreed on and our youngest has a passing resemblance to Calvin

This little fella is called Monty. Ignorant unless hungry. He’s also got a good right hand on him if provoked.

Most mornings to shuffle him out the cat flap. Haven't got a picture of the act mind you.

It's justified seeing as he walks across my face at 0630hrs to remind me he still exists.

Still daren't call him Len though!

Nix and Sox. When we got them at a few days old, Sox had already been named at the farm, so it made for a simple decision.

Recent(ish) pic of Bruno and Gizmo.

We lost Bruno couple months back but not so bad considering they are both 19... Gizmo can still tear around the house like he’s on fire!

When naming an animal you have to consider what it (you) will sound like when you stand in the garden trying to call it in late at night.

  46. #46
I haven't had cats for years - all now long gone but were named Jasper, Pernod, Wilko, Chunky, Marmite.

    Tell me about it.

Kevin has eyes of different sizes. So we called him Eye Littler.

The Weinstocks next door were not impressed when we called him in at night, hence the name change.

This is Lion, named by my son after Fireman Sams cat. He's pure moggy but has almost perfect tabby markings. He's soft as sh!te with people but pure terror to our other pets, except.

This is NOP. Named after the Assembly language mnemonic for 'No OPeration' as that's cats really. Lions brother and the only other pet of ours tolerated by Lion.

This (the small one) is Darla (or small cat), my Mums cat who we inherited when she passed away. As you can see she is quite small compared to NOP (sitting on the chair). Her and Lion do not get on (but as the picture suggests she and NOP tolerate each other) so she spends mot of her time on the 2nd floor in my office or my daughters room. Hence her 3rd name 'upstairs cat'.

We also have 2 rats, an axlotl and a giant african snail. Lion would kill all of them in a heartbeat if we weren't constantly vigillant. They were all impulse buys by the wife on the understanding that I have nothing to do with their upkeep. The boy now wants a snake. This isn't going to happen.
The Snail: (taken a while ago, it's not 2 or 3x bigger and looks like a mutant lady part when you pick it up)

Our current cat was named Socks because she had white sock feet, but the kids all called her Bubbas & it's stuck. She's 14 or 15 years old now.

Previously we had a boy cat called Hendrix & a girl called Minstrel, for the obvious reason - not PC now, but it was over 30 years ago.
