009 and the more colourful bezel elevates the look for me.
You get it on the jubilee? That's possibly my favourite bracelet. Light, comfy, classy, robust.

So I bought the Skx007 - I just love it
It just works for me - I have watches worth thousands - this a couple of hundred or so
My question is - did they make others - and what are the differences
Eg; 009
Also how easy is it to change the bezel insert ?
I’m really pleased

Pretty sure it was just 007 , 009 and the 39mm 013
I seem to recall reading on here that there are quite a few subtle variations, including 'J' and 'K' variants made in Japan or Korea.
I have this. It's a lovely thing.

Yep, pretty much like you. More expensive watches, but I've been wearing my 009 for the last couple of days now.
Differences are the pepsi style bezel, and a midnight blue dial. I did have the 007 but gave that to my brother a long time ago.
Saw the blue in a shop in France some years ago, and resisted the temptation to buy it there and then. It looked lovely, but then on my return home, some months later, I got one from the internet.
Wearing it today in fact, on a two piece blue nylon strap.
I have the 013. The jubilee bracelet is cheap, rattly, supremely comfortable and I think it looks great A study in contradictions.
lots of modding options - the SKX007 is probably one of the most modded watch, some great looking modifications
There was an orange dialled version as well the SKX011
It is quite rare though.
I would not mind picking one up if I find one
007 is black dial and bezel
009 in navy dial and Pepsi bezel
013 is as 007 but 39mm in size

Same here. Started with 007 on rubber, then bought 009 on jubilee. Both watches also go on NATO and various Bonetto rubber straps. Sometimes wonder what more I need.
Case has very interesting shapes, love the matt grey dial on the 007 and the colors on the 009.
Should maybe go for an oyster one day.

I picked a 007 in 2015 and it is a great watch. I was aware of the 007 but went for a SNZG11 which was a Seiko 5 sports/military type watch instead. But upon reading about the 007 in Hodinkee’s Value Proposition, I ‘pulled the trigger’.
I do not swim or dive but for desk diving it’s perfect.
I am very slim wristed but find the 007 very comfortable. I went back and forth between the 007 and 009 and it was a tough decision.
I’ve owned, modified and sold quite a few of these, but ultimately find the crown guards too uncomfortable unless on a nato (and I’m well over them).
Having said that, I still have a 007 and a 009 in the collection. I’ve just never worn them.
Loads of insert choices from the likes of 10watches or Yobokies
It’s an iconic watch and as others have mentioned infinitely moddable. I love mine: a few years ago I gave it an “upgrade” by installing a more modern movement, a sapphire crystal and a signed crown.
I usually wear it in an Uncle Seiko strap waffle strap - goes really well.
I’ve had a couple of SKX007’s but have never been able to bond with them. Good holiday watch but then I end up flipping. Glad you like yours though, horses for courses and all that!
Creation Watches are currently selling the orange SKX011 for £258 which seems like a pretty good price.

Great watch and great watch to learn on for a bit of modding. So many aftermarket parts sellers out there.
Some great looking seikos here.
OP have you considered the turtle range at all? I have the SBDY015 (JDM SRP777) and feel the same way you do.
If you can find a genuine Seiko Z22 strap then I think you will be happy. Very comfortable.
Fantastic watches! I got one after being a bit of a watch snob and love it.
I got a replica Pepsi insert off eBay, bleached it and haven’t looked back!
It’s a bit of job to replace the insert( harder than Rolex anyway as the insert is actually glued on) but some good videos on YouTube on how it’s done.

Another option might be the Borealis strap: https://www.borealiswatch.com/store/...ches-p39772276
I used one for for a while and it was comfortable and good value. I ended up with a Strapcode oyster bracelet though. I prefer bracelets.
Hi Sweepinghand, I had a 009 for a while and enjoyed it, although I ended up putting it on one of Strapcodes excellent Oyster bracelets, as I was not a fan of the stock Jubilee (and the less said about the Z22 rubber strap the better ).
Having said that, the only Seiko I still own at present is the PADI Turtle, which I think is a significantly better watch for not much more money...better case, better movement, better looks and a vastly better bracelet.
Just a thought...
Simon
There was a yellow dialled model as well, SKXA35. I had one ages ago, don't think I've seen many about though.

I agree with Simon in the turtle as an option. I also have the padi and it’s a stunning watch. Slightly bigger than a 007 in my perception.
Looking for more value for money there are also some nice Seiko 5 models or Vostok models. Both can also be heavily modded if that’s your thing.
Snzh59 /57 range has classic looks for example, even without modding. Love it in blue.
In the Vostok range I got a standard scuba dude and didn’t mod any parts but I did brush the bezel (very easy) and than later the case (also pretty easy if you figure out how). Spectacular watch now and at USD 70 not a big risk.

I have owned a few 007/9s and I am a big fan especially paired with strapcode bracelets, recently picked up a 013 and it is a much better size (for me) and everything about it is right
I have also tried most of the modern designs, turtles, samurai etc and they are just lacking something although great watches
The classic seiko diver design of the skx is what makes it the best watch for the money, it just looks/feels right and although they are plagued with quality issues/inconsistencies it adds to their quirkiness/charm
The 013 with narrower lugs, smaller bracelet width, smaller case etc is a winner
Hmmm. It is possible that it is a very very very dark blue, but its so dark that it is effectively impossible to distinguish from black! In some lights, there is a slight hint of blue to it I suppose. The blue part of the bezel is a very dark blue as well, though definitely a blue rather than a black!
I seem to remember on previous threads that there are more variants than just the three we've mentioned. There are lots of minutiae about the dial lettering etc. Mine says 'Diver's 200m' in orange, that not all have, though to be frank I leave such detailed issues to Rolex Sub owners!
SKX007 - Black dial black insert
SKX009 - Blue dial pepsi insert
SKX011 - Orange dial black insert
SKXA35 - Yellow dial black insert
SKX171 - Black dial with applied indices and stainless bezel
SKX173 - US only version of the 007 with square indices and 6309 style seconds hand
SKX175 - US only version of the 009 with square indices and 6309 style seconds hand
SKX399 - Philippines only version of the 007 with applied indices
SKX401 - Philippines only version of the 009 with applied indices
Plus there are a few (?) Thai limited editions which I don't know the code for.
Then there's the SARB059 and 061 with the same case but different hands, dial and bezel plus a 6R15 inside.
I think that covers it
007's are nice watches, I have a couple (K & J variety) but IMO let down by the rather cheap 7S26 movements.
If I get another similar it will be the orange dialled quartz version.
As mentioned earlier, the Turtles are definitely a step up and for little extra money you get;
Hand winding and hacking.
Lug holes (much easier to change straps unlike 007s)
Solid end link bracelets.
Bigger chunkier case, reminiscent of the old 6105's.
Well worth the little extra money IMO.

Cheers,

Great thread! I have a 007 and a 011.
How does the turtle movement (4R36?) compare to the 7S26. I think I recall it hacks, but I could well be incorrect.
Another vote for the turtles - I started with an SKX but wasn’t blown away. Traded up to a turtle and have been thru around 5 or 6 now of various colours. They are definitely a step up and don’t see me getting rid of mine anytime soon.
Also, if you like the look of the jubilee then do yourself a favour & get yourself a strapcode - they are a million times better than the cheap and rattly seiko ones, but equally look the business.
