best karcher for cleaning decking ?

Can anyone advise me on the best model Karcher power washer to clean decking.
I’m looking for something That’s not too big and heavy but with sufficient power to clean aprox 40m2 decking regularly
    Thanks

The most powerful one you can afford and get the T Racer attachment as well, it saves you getting soaked to the skin and covered in crap.

This. So many jet washers are glorified garden hoses.
Try to get one with a brass motor as well.

None. Don't buy a Karcher as they now poorly made & fail & Karcher also have a policy of not supplying spares for old models, or if they are available they are priced exorbitantly. Look at Nilfisk, although even with those the models with a plastic pump impeller or housing are best avoided.

The best Karcher is a Nilfisk.

The attachment just left circles on my decking. Used it twice and now it languishes in the garage.

My technique is to dampen 4 rows of decking, pour decking cleaner on and brush in, then powerwash off in straight lines and repeat.

I just accept that using the karcher on the floor means I'm dirty.

You don't need a strong wash for decking - if your wood is soft or damp a strong spray will damage it. However, I would get the strongest on you can on general principle - just be careful.

Don't use anything too powerful on decking

After having various Karchers for decades I got fed up with the decreasing quality of them.
So I switched to Nilfisk a couple of years ago and will never change back.

For decking I’d recommend a dedicated accessory, the rotary spinning model with the brush insert around it. Far better at giving an even clean and less damage to wooden decking.

I prefer the Power Scrubber over the T Racer on my decking.

I received a Nilfisk pressure washer just yesterday as it goes.

I was going to guy a KarcherK4.......I spoke to a few guys in work...EVERYONE! I spoke to had horror stories with Karcher...so I got a Nilfisk 135 "bundle" 135 Bar, and it came with attachments , including a decking/patio cleaner.

I paid just under £180 for it delivered.

    True

My last Karcher X series K5 lasted 10 years, I saw wickes were doing an offer for £165 so replaced it with the same model.

Buy cheap buy twice, is what I work by.

I also got that deal. Should be delivered on the 24th. First karcher, first pressure washer intact. We have a lot of block paving which we have just scraped out all the moss. we're getting the front garden block paved soon so thought I'd invest.

Just got a K5 Premium Full Control with T-Racer - no complaints. Cleans my stone patio in a flash. Wouldn’t go any lower than K5 (less pressures).

Be careful when using a pressure washer on wood. It can (will) change your smooth decking into stretches of 'lumber' (raw wood) when it has dried. I did this once and after that, the following years, I turned to scrubbing with a mixture of hot water, old-fashioned soda and soft soap.

About the pressure washer brand: after a Kärcher and a no-name from Lidl (I think), I'm now using a Stihl washer. Only set-back is the price of these machines. But, this is the 10th year of using it. The grip is soft and the spring mechanism inside is not too strong. You don't have to squeeze very hard all the time when you it.

I have just stripped my Karcher K4 as the pressure dropped off so much it won't work the foaming attachment bottle properly, the spiral wand won't spiral, the drain cleaner hose jet jammed etc. The body of the motor is aluminium, the pump is three little plastic pistons and valves pushed by a rotating swash plate.

Unless I replace the piston block, I can't see how to get the pressure back up. About £70 for the part so I ordered a Nilfisk based on loads of online reviews slagging Karchers. I've owned 3 over the years, they only ever last a few years tops, so not going back now.

I've used Nilfisk for over 15 years now , they usually last me about 5 or 6 and I use mine 3-4 times a week usually as I detail cars

As mentioned always use a power patio cleaner rather than just the normal nozzle as the pressure can damage decking

These guys are good if you are in the market for one

best karcher for cleaning decking ?

Reading this thread makes me think I’ve been lucky with Karcher. A K2 has just packed up after ten years. In that time I didn’t have one problem with it. I always cleared the water out of it and kept in a frost free environment.

Only last week I replaced it with a K4 complete. I’ve only used it once and it does seem better than my old K2, certainly quieter. I’ll see how I get on.

Karcher Full Control does a decent job for me but you really need a petrol version for heavy duty cleaning.

Edit: I’ve been through numerous Karchers over the years.

    Wouldn’t buy another.

I have a Karcher K5, bought two years ago and use it twice a year at most. Particularly to do a large paved area, cleared the Mrs tubs from the patio and all the furniture (took me nearly an hour to clear) in prep for a good power wash.

Got it out plugged in and nothing ....dead, what a waste of time. Can I find the receipt

In the past, I have noticed that you kill a Kärcher overnight when it’s stored in a place where the temperature can drop below zero. When you open the curtains and you see a white-frozen lawn, you can be certain that your Kärcher is ‘kaput’. (Yes, experience...).

Never used one - Is the pressure adjustable on most (or any) machines?

Only in so far as you control the distance from the deck the nozzle is.

Didn’t know that. Our garage is detached and not central heated so I guess mines goosed then

My Nilfisk has lasted three years, now taped the handle up on the gun and turn on & off @ the machine! Pressure switch has probably gone I would guess.

Bit tricky when on the roof cleaning the tiles! Not sure I’d buy another one, we have Karcher steam cleaner @ work that is a work horse but it’s a big industrial machine so not portable.

On the Karcher you can adjust the pressure for different surfaces.

Depends: the cheaper models aren’t adjustable.

I was thinking why I’ve bought the Stihl and not a different brand. Now I remember: tool rental companies overhere have (only) Stihl washer on their ‘for rent’ list. That convinced me that the quality must be okay. Which - after so many years- is.
