For people new to mechanical watches....

And also for those with an interest - I found this video to be beautifully made and really rather educational

    Enjoy

Excellent, but I think I would have to watch it many times to really get the gist.

The video features a manual wind watch, not an automatic. The thread title should really be 'For people new to mechanical watches....'

Apart from that small bit of pedantry the video's a good illustration of how things work!

An excellent video, no amount of reading books or looking at diagrams can get the info across as clearly as this. Shame it didn`t go on to explain how an automatic winding mechanism works and how the mainspring behaves.

That’s where it “clicked” for me too. Hypnotic stuff

Yes quite correct / and I knew that and still typed automatic in the title been a long day. I’ll log in on browser and amend it

I have watched a number of videos on YouTube that explain how watch movements work but this video is by far the best I have seen.

Having got a little sidetracked I also watched their video on "How Jet Engines Work" and found this easier to understand than the watch mechanism.
