    Elliot Brown Watches

While searching the internet, in boredom, today, I discovered the Elliot Brown watches website. I have not heard of them but no doubt they are well known here. I particularly like this one:
    https://elliotbrownwatches.com/colle...on-101-001-r06
Unfortunately it is out of stock just now. I'm not sure about the military issued claim. They don't go into detail. I suppose they couldn't anyway. That aside, I really like it. Does anyone have one of their watches and care to comment. The case size is 43mm, which is a little big for my taste, though my thick wrist could cope. Is it decent quality or should I just go for another Seiko. :) Opinions please.

As an alternative to a Seiko I would say go for it as they are something a bit different
Their military claim is genuine, they were a private purchase item for the RM much like Eddie has done in the past.
Their head office is pretty much next door to the RM mess in Poole.
I don’t own one but have handled one of the RM private purchase and I thought it was a good watch for the money.

I've looked at them a few times but £375+ for a quartz is too steep.

You can get them a bit cheaper if you shop around on google and find a jewellers with a discount code.

I’ve no experience of the watch but like the khaki coloured dial

£100 off at the watch hut for example

Ian Elliot and Alex Brown were both originally from Animal. Ian was in fact a co-founder of the company.
    https://www.t3.com/news/animal-co-fo...-watch-company

I had excellent after-sales service from them many years ago back in the Animal days so I've followed their new venture with interest. I really like what they're doing and have no doubt the watches reflect their passion and attention to detail but most of them are just too big for my taste.... and stature! It's disappointing that they haven't introduced some of the more interesting colour schemes and combinations in their smaller watch (the Kimmeridge) and I can't help feeling they've missed a trick by still marketing that very much as ladies watch. Just seems a little out of step with the rest of the industry. The Tyneham automatic is a good size for many at 41mm but the placement of the power reserve indicator up near 1 o'clock slightly spoils that one for me.

Would be interested to hear from anyone who's owned one.

Thanks for the info. The military connection is not a big deal for me but it does add a bit of interest. To be honest, I would have thought a military watch would be much smaller (G-Shock aside). Less chance of being damaged. However I do like it and always keen to support the smaller brands. It's not cheap for a quartz, I agree. My heart always rules over my head. :)

I have always had a slight problem with the issued claim.
I have no problem with the fact that certain military unit(s) bought some for genuine service use, but I do not really equate that to what one might consider to be issued in the original sense, something that has been competed in an open tender process, won by a supplier (or more) and then procured centrally for service-wide issue (even if it is only for specialist use).
It is rather too cosy the fact that the watch company and the mess of the unit that "issued" the watches have front doors that almost touch when they're opened.
It seems far closer to a Bremont-style private purchase than a true "issue".
And the NSN is not an indicator of issued status either.
The fact that a lot of their press in 2018 stated that the watch was "Approved by NATO" and "the first british watch in over 10 years to be approved", both of which are baloney, didn't help the matter.
It seemed there was a lot more spin than fact in the matter.

They seem to my mind rather expensive for Ronda quartz or Miyota autos and generic in their design.
Sorry but it's a "no" from me.

    Bit of a resurrection:

I’m really wanting to like the dive watch - but it just seems insanely massive: 52mm lug to lug! 😳😳

Anyone got any size pics/ feedback?

(The ‘issue’ business: SF can buy stuff outside ‘normal’ channels, so if Ginge or Legs want them in the stores and they have the trigger on the magic credit card, they can put them in the stores ….. many, many, many thousands spent this way every year on whims - but you have to frame any jealous instincts that may provoke against what we ask them to do. (and, De Niro-esque, EB isn’t next to the mess, it’s next to the boat yard 😉😂))

I had a Canford for a while which is 54mm lug to lug and 44mm across. It wasn’t hefty
to wear but it definitely showed it’s size by having such a large dial. My wrist is 6 3/4 “ and the lugs almost extended over the top of it. It developed a few re occurring issues which EB tried very hard to resolve but in the end I had to return the watch for a refund. I was disappointed with the watch but I can confirm that their customer service is fantastic. It’s a shame that their dive watches are on the large side as I’d be very tempted if they were slightly smaller.
