for me the word 'SEIKO" seems a tad too low

and the word "AUTOMATIC" should be under the word SEIKO

    and I don't like the "X"

the above un-balance the dial that was a very good design in the 6105-8110

    etc.,

but it is what it is

This X (PS) is an absolute nightmare, surely Seiko do market research and given I am yet to come across a favourable comment, they must realise this is not a well received piece of branding.

Here as the original versions, except I think the Martin Sheen watch is what's called a PROOF/PROOF

I dont really mind the X. I would prefer it without but it would not stop me buying it, if the prices are correct I will have a look at the black dial version.

Was about to post something similar. People seem to be indifferent to it at best. Less is usually more when it comes to watches IMO.

I agree and so simple for Seiko to get it correct.

They look pretty good ,only thing is that Seiko have released so many prospex watches recently they all blend into one

I cant wait to see the green in the flesh instead of a render. If the black version were on silicone that would be a no brainer. But I dont want to pay the extra for a bracelet I'd be taking straight off to fit a silicone strap instead of anyway.

Same here, the X has never bothered me. Saying that, the dial layout on the original model is better.

Still need to make my mind up whether I like the green dial or not.

But difficult choice between this and the 62mas/017 reissue - budget will only allow for one and both look pretty darn good!

I think that it depends what you are going to do with the watch

I have quite a lot of watches which I wear in rotation - maybe one a week - and for that I tend to prefer older watches

Maybe this would be good as an everyday wearer if you only wear or have one or two watches - if to wear regularly. e.g. for a few weeks on holiday, I usually prefer a MM300 or an SKX........

In any case I think as a daily wearer I would still prefer a 7548, (a quartz watch), or a 6309-7040

The above does nothing for me, especially when compared to a 6105 or SLA033

The X is horrible IMO, just looks like the X Factor logo every time I see it and that's not something I want on my watch. I dislike it enough it would stop me buying any Seiko with that logo on the dial.

I thought Timefactors/Smiths were going to do a 40mm version of the PRS-68 (The Baby Willard)

Perhaps - if people don't like the dial and its layout on the Seiko re-issue, the Smiths would be the better bet?

Thanks for that, and don't they just? Green for me, for the reasons I gave in post 9, plus now I've seen actual photos I simply prefer it.

In black on the bracelet for me but would need to see it in real life first which could prove difficult at the moment. Not in love with the X but they're on my SPB079 and SLA021 and I don't even notice it when checking the time.

These seem to be pretty expensive. I thought they'd been cheaper. At least there will be a second hand market since they're not limited (?), i guess?

Your bezel alignment is a spiritual nod to it's lower budget counterparts though

New Captain Willard Prospex Seiko SPB151 & SPB153

Looking forward to seeing the green in the metal when my local AD is open.

Still living the green king turtle I picked up recently.

Very tempted. Decent 6105s are becoming rare (and Id be afraid to damage it) and the SLA is magnificent but in a different league.

Prices have put it out of impulse buying range though so will wait and see.

Lovely. Won't measure up, because it's not meant to.

I've never minded the X, and the better power reserve and smaller size will be nice.

Im a little surprised at the level of dislike for the Prospex logo, I dont have a problem with it at all.

Having said that, my pet bugbear with Seiko is the use of 5 - I will never buy a Seiko with 5 on the dial...

And I can see why, its wonderfull.
But for people like myself who dont already have an original 6105, dont have the up to 2k asking price for a minter, dont want to enter the potential minefield of non original parts, vintage reliability etc, then a reissue makes massive amounts of sense.
But yes, if like you I had an original, i would stick with that.

I like the looks of the new Seiko re-issues but still to big for me and the price. I would prefer the Christopher Ward C65 Trident diver. Even at 41mm it is still a bit big for me but can be had for much less than the Seiko.

Picture from @toppersjewelers on IG. Toppers have it on their site for $1,300, not sure if that's ex or inc taxes. Expected June 2020.

If it's 1,300 here I'll pass but I think it looks great and I really want one.

It looks much better than Seiko's renders, as usual. No fan of the bracelet though, especially the way it fits (or rather, doesn't fit) to the case.

    Again

go for the original at a similar price

    March 1976

OK you may have to price in a service and a new band, but the original is a class act

That is stunning, and the continued love for it the reason these new ones exist. But there is a finite supply, prices for excellent pieces way above the Toppers price for a new one, and a potential minefield for all but very knowledgeable buyers.
Even if the Toppers price quoted above is accurate they'll be widely available for 3 figures once the rush (if there is one) has died down, and especially if there is no rush in the first place and units need to be shifted.
Personally I love vintage style, but prefer a new watch, hence my small collection of reissue turtles and an Oris sixty five. Happy to be called a philistine .

I think a waffle or tropic strap would be the way to go.

Is the bezel on these new Willard SPB151 and SPB153 ceramic or aluminium ?

v.good question, Seiko a bit tardy on the ceramic in their range, but they did it for the 'king' turtle.

In fact, for those new Willard watches non clear info about the material are available on internet (if ceramic or aluminium).

OK its not the real deal and the only thing Seiko about it is the movement but this arrived today ( after giving those thieves RM a handling charge + VAT) but first impression i really like the watch it does not pretend to be the real thing but does a very nice job being itself at a fraction of the price.

Im almost ready to push the button on a Steeldive 6105 homage. Real deal is silly money, although Id settle on a good 6309 , getting silly though.
