I don't see anything in there saying either rolex or Omega are interested in such a thing?

No thanks. I appreciate the universal and simple interface of a mechanical watch combined with its hassle free reliability.

The last thing I want is to spend time troubleshooting something which is supposed to ‘just work’.

I don’t want any tech interfaces on my watch. I like them because they don’t have any.

I can see that tech being of more interest from a warranty / authentication POV

I had contactless payment on a watch six years ago.

Contactless payment / rail pass is probably the thing I least used when I wore a smartwatch, seems a (clever) solution in search of a problem. Now if a caseback manufacturer invented a heartrate / SPO2 monitor that would work with my Ulysse Nardin I'd be in.
