    SWMBO Watch repair

The other day the crystal "fell out" of SWMBO red Radley watch.
No idea why, but it didn't end well for the crystal.

After a rummage through my box of crystals it turns out I dont have one the corect size, but I do have some crystal material.
Given some spare time and no places to go it seemed like I should make a new one...

So out with the saw and practice circle cutting again.

I got it pretty close, and a little touch up with some files and it fits the case

It is obviously not going to pass muster with that shape, so I need to bevel it.
I have a tape chuck device for my Unimat, which is an old stainless steel brake piston.
So I took a truing cutting

Stuck on some double sided tape

    And then centred the Crystal.

I took light cuts with a very polished graver and added the bevel.
    Looks about right:

    Then reassembled the watch.

Whilst it was in pieces replaced the battery - seems last time it needed one I only had pound shop AG4 available.
Since then I have again got some Renatas.
The case back on these is a bit of a sod, so that should save me from opening it up again in the short term

I’m impressed, if I had the space I’d get myself a lathe and learn how to use it.

Having said that, I would’ve measured the remains of the old crystal then ordered a replacement from Cousins, seems easier than making a new one.

I did contemplate that, but I need to practice :)
