Thread: Air traffic over the Uk

    Air traffic over the Uk

Looked at this earlier and it’s pretty surreal to see how little there is in the skies above us. Think I counted less than 20 at 4pm this afternoon and a lot of them were helicopters.
    Weird times.......

I notice one guy draw a c**k over London this afternoon (no really) with their flight path and then someone else fly over from France and basically did an up-down-up-down from london all the way back - strange times.

We are on the flight path for Liverpool and also Manchester. Only saw two aircraft all day both high in the sky, both ex USA , one to enroute to Frankfurt, the other Amsterdam.

I heard a really unusual sounding aircraft fly past the house twice on Wednesday, but I was too slow to the window to see it. Nothing on Flightradar24 that related to it.

According to the Manchester Evening News it was an RAF C17 doing a touch and go at the airport. Strange times indeed!

We’re not far from Brize and we get them and the A400M go over on full chat quite a lot, the 400M sounds like a screaming cat. Also got buzzed yesterday by a C130 really bloody low- scared the crap out of me.

I'm 15 min from East Midlands Airport and under the normal take off route. Its been very quiet the last few days. It was strange at first because you get used to the planes but suddenly it clicks that they just aren't really there now

We had a Chinook over here yesterday evening (just south of Blackpool. Never seen one here before apart from airshow) Wondering if it was delivering medical equipment.

Joint Helicopter Command have established an Aviation Taskforce to support the COVID response, taking people and equipment from A to B etc.

More than likely a flight under that tasking.

Heard a very different sounding helicopter last night.. went over the house just after 11pm. Sound was very deep / thumping compared to normal stuff (air ambulance, police chopper etc) so I hastily grabbed my phone and loaded FlightRadar24 and to my surprise no sign at all... so presumably it was military and either a Chinhook or Osprey but.. sort of surprising for it to be untrackable!

Seems as though its Prestwick's turn this evening...ASCOT439.

I suppose that this is an ideal training opportunity for the RAF to train using different airfields and it will give the local ATC and airport control something to think about.

We live a couple of miles ish from Edinburgh airport, it's been so quiet during lockdown that we now look up when we hear an aircraft.

And it seems that SOO275 is one of their regular flight that continues to Hong Kong.

As well as the drone mentioned above, 2 aircraft operated by Excel aviation out of Doncaster patrolling the Channel this evening/morning.
CGD23B, G-SCIR for ~3 hours (landing at Southend) then replaced by CGD22B, G-HMGB.

Just my opinion but I think the world was taking the p**s anyway with how much people were going traveling and on holidays.

Im not going to check back here to see what hate I get for saying that but that is how I feel about it

Just had them overhead en-route back to Scampton (North East Leicestershire/Lincs border), in a 5 and 4 ship.

    Nice surprise for VE Day!

    Excellent.

Don’t travel or go on holiday, then, no-one is forcing you.

Travel broadens the mind. Hope we recover this industry asap else we run the risk of losing the opportunity to be more open minded

Spreading a worldwide pandemic in the process, adding to global warming, in an effort to be more open minded? Might be an excuse to jet off on exotic holidays, drink gin and tonic in the sunshine, but no need to dress it up as something ‘essential’. The world seemed to do ok for the untold millennia before the invention of the aeroplane. I think attitudes to international plane travel will have to change, either now or at some point in the very near future - hard though that is to swallow.

    Beware of thread diversion, please.

We already have several threads devoted to the right and wrongs of various actions or inactions during the C19 epidemic.

I have been thinking the exact same thing Heathrow is a lot busier today
Sitting here in the garden there seems to be a flight every 2/3 minutes followed by lull.

I've sat in the garden at the Ailsa Tavern on more than one sunny afternoon watching them come in at 30 second intervals,

The USAF operate the 767 as an A2A tanker (KC-767), so probably one of those heading back home?
