B52 over the UK https://globe.adsbexchange.com/?icao=ae58a7
Missed me by a couple of miles so could hear it rumble passed. I'm pretty close to the Lincolnshire airbases so I get to see some interesting stuff and regularly the Red Arrows out training.
There's a Hunter near the B52 over The Wash https://globe.adsbexchange.com/?icao=ae58a7,43c925
That's an interesting track of the B52. Burning off some fuel?
It seems we are expecting some B52s to arrive...link.
Why are they called HATE 12 and 13?
'Against stupidity, the gods themselves struggle in vain' - Schiller.
HATE12 looks like it has landed at Fairford so I bet it was burning off some fuel to get to the maximum landing weight. Must have been a sight over Norfolk this afternoon.
FORTE12 US Drone over the Ukraine now, covered some airspace.Just North of DNipro at this time.

According to the BBC, 4 B52s have arrived at Fairford...link:
On a day dominated by geopolitics, earlier today four B-52 bombers arrived from the US at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire.
Meanwhile, Ms Truss is on her way back from Moscow: https://globe.adsbexchange.com/?icao=43c146...or maybe it is just her plane getting back to NATO territory for fuel.

Yes. Or 11 and 13, I forget.
This https://ukdefencejournal.org.uk/amer...over-scotland/ references them (as 11 and 13).
I see from the article that the movements over the Wash were practice bomb runs.

Doh, I misread Saint-Just's question! I misread the "Why" as "Were". Sorry.
Why those names? They were just their randomly selected callsigns. Could be anything. The word used isn't usually significant.

The visiting B52s have been active: https://globe.adsbexchange.com/?icao...,ae5889,ae58b2.
Now the Italians are getting in on the act: https://globe.adsbexchange.com/?icao=32002e.
Fair amount of military activity over the uk this evening , C130’s , C17’s , a few eurofighters & an E3 sentry cruising the skies .

...As part of Exercise Swift Pirate, large aircraft are expected to operate during the day from Tuesday 15th February until the evening of Thursday 17th February. There will be night flying from 1700 to 2100 on Tuesday 15th February until the evening of Thursday 17th February...
Didn’t fancy coming to the UK anyway…
This has just turned around and headed back to Europe, the weather is playing havoc with air traffic today
There have been several diverts to Geneva in the earlier part of the morning. Landing rate seems more reasonable at the moment, but wind is unlikely to be favourable for the rest of the day.
Canadian Skyhawk over North Sea near The Netherlands https://globe.adsbexchange.com/?icao=c01276
I looked at the website of the operator of that aircraft, Top Aces, and they "provide advanced airborne training to the world’s leading air forces. The mission-critical training offered by Top Aces enhances the operational readiness of combat forces by providing a realistic real-world experience while prolonging fleet life." Interesting.
B52s have been busy this week. I see they're off on their training again. https://globe.adsbexchange.com/?icao=ae58a7,ae5889
Top Aces Inc have quite a fleet...link.
ICYMI, Cobham is now Draken Europe...link...and they also participate in exercises over the North Sea.
They’ve gone it’s Draken now they use falcon F20s. Not dissimilar, the red force in the U.K. is still supplied by the RAF 100sqn at Leeming but they are loosing the mk1 hawk soon so it’s going out to tender.

G-WNDR is off of the Lizard...link.
Maybe it's a continuation of the RM drone trials?
Edit: Make that two pairs...https://globe.adsbexchange.com/?icao=4009d4,4009ca. And there may be more...

There is a pair flying at the moment: https://globe.adsbexchange.com/?icao=4009d3,4009cc.
Along with Hawks from Leeming, including at least one of the the QEAF variety.
Update: And now down south: https://globe.adsbexchange.com/?icao=4009cd,4009d5.

I think that the U of Southampton may only have built two of their Ultra TDP UAVs for Windracers Ltd. There are a few more pictures online, see link.
At first I was suspicious about an all white Federal US jet over the UK. Then I realised it is simply the FAA calibrating USAF equipment at Mildenhall:
...see https://globe.adsbexchange.com/?icao=ac42fa.
Several historic aircraft flying at the moment, including:
Yesterday I noticed a large amount of condensation trails over the Midlands, but did not hear any aircraft. I assume military so why so high up?
Just as likely to be civilian. High-flying aircraft, whether civilian or military, are often inaudible in practice.
I live in north west London right under common high altitude flight paths from Europe to the USA. On certain days when the weather is right the sky will be full of contrails but I heard nothing.
If you can pinpoint a time and location then FR24 or similar will tell you what you saw (look at the playback feature).

There are several posts in this thread about the Royal Mail experimenting with drones. Apparently it is a viable option...see Royal Mail wants fleet of 500 drones.
Contrails are just vapour trails from the engines. They don't always form because they need a certain atmospheric condition...the air needs to be cold, humid and supersaturated for the ice crystals to form so using them as a relative gauge of how busy airspace is innacurate. Eg You might find an aircraft gives a persistent contrail at FL330 but down at FL290 non-persistent.
Unless you see persistent circular or racetrack patterns from AWACS, which will occur at specific orbit areas in the UK (we used to use Northumberland or North Yorks a lot), I'd say its more likely to be civil traffic you see trailing. Operationally, we'd use met briefing to try and avoid the levels that produced contrails as you wouldn't want to make yourself a visual target. In the UK for training we would take the information but not really act on it as we were more interested in picking a level that worked best for the radar and avoided ducting (another atmospheric related issue) or strong winds which caused the aircarft to bank in the turn and the tail would 'flash' the radar.
Nowadays, I believe there is research ongoing to incorporate atmospheric conditions in flight planning to avoid any potential negative climate effects of persistent trails. Not sure how advanced this is because I assume its a difficult challenge with busy airspace.

I'm definitely interested in catching the Jubilee flyover today. Here's a website with the route and schedule of when to expect them.
Looks like London between 12:30-115.
Anyone have an idea where you can listen to the radio communication? Probably online stream as I don't have an actual radio?
