    PCN entering a bus lane

Received my first PCN today through work for very briefly (less than half the car) entering a bus lane in Stoke on Trent near the potteries center after a wrong turn.

Not overly concerned but the date was the 1st of February this year.

Is it still enforceable? Anything I should be asking?

Car is leased so I presume letter has been forwarded but date of contravention is 1/02, date posted shows 1/04.

    Thanks

I got one for my company car in London, lease hire firm add a £25 charge for forwarding it to me!

Normally if it is not attended to your lease company will pay it and charge you accordingly if it happened then just soak it up.

Annoying as it is, if you accept it was your mistake in driving in the bus lane I’d just pay the fine and move on. As if these things aren’t dealt with in a timely manner they seem to just drag on and possibly get more expensive.

I’d double check that the lease company haven’t already paid, that’s the normal, they just pay and pass it to driver plus an admin fee. Otherwise you always miss the “pay by” price and get the full charge due to time it takes.

No they haven't, official letter from council arrived at office today.

Went in bus lane 1st February

    They issued letter 1st April.

I was under the impression they only had 28 days to do this.

Had one myself a couple years ago, some homework established there is a set distance of 20m or something leeway near a junction (I was way over as thought the lane was 4pm active but was actually 3pm) so if you can be bothered to save £60 or whatever do some digging as maybe a similar get out available.

    Appeal it .
Send them an email explaining the half a car thing , basically apologising . Explain the wrong turn in an unfamiliar place and see what they come back with . It can’t hurt and your appeal won’t increase the original fine if it fails .
From experience , Ive had good results from appealing .

Just had a Google as a matter of interest.

This is nearly 4 years ago:

But it does give a link to the actual legislation:

    http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2...ulation/8/made

This is on the Northern Ireland government website - is their law the same is England??

    https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/articles...e-notices-pcns

It's just another money making scam. How many drivers are caught like the OP for a tiny technical infringement that has caused zero inconvenience for anyone. It's not like someone using the bus lane to undertake, etc..

    Appeals process:

Thanks for all the information, it appears from the folks over at pepipoo forum I had missed a sign and ended up in a short bus lane/gate having to turn against oncoming traffic at end of road (luckily it was not busy)

Think I'll chalk this one down to experience.
