Approx £1k for a Diver? What to choose

    Hi all,

Looking at purchasing a nicer watch to go with my small collection. I currently use a Seiko turtle, monster and G-shock in rotation, and would like to purchase a diver for around the £1k mark after shifting the Monster.

In terms of brands, I've considered newer pieces from Sinn and Oris, with the Sixty-five being a current favourite. However, would it be worth looking at more expensive brands (i.e. the Omega Seamaster 300M) second hand? What sort of money are Seamasters going for now?

Looking forward to your opinions, and photos of your choices!

    Cheers,
    Joe.

Why not look at CWC? You could get auto or quartz and perhaps have some cash left over. ETA 2824 in the auto models. Great build quality and heritage. Date or non-date options. You can only wear them on a Nato strap, but if you’re ok with that you could find something that appeals from their current range.

A good seamaster can almost be double your limit.

Rado captain cook range is quite nice. Not sure on price though, but probably under £1k.

You might squeeze an older Breitling SuperOcean for your budget.

An Eterna Kontiki 1973 is a pretty impressive watch that can be picked up for less than a grand.

For a proper bargain, there's a couple of massively reduced Titoni Seascopers currently on Chrono24 for £500ish. I paid a fair bit more for mine and it's a cracking watch.

Can you still get an MM300 for that kind of price? I haven’t kept up.

    Or a Tuna?

For the sort of money you want to spend - Longines HydroConquest a good option - you can order direct from Longines as well...

Approx £1k for a Diver? What to choose

Seiko just released a few new divers in this range, there was another topic on that.

My personal favourite is the Halios bronze. No dive bezel though they have a SS range with one, new batch due later this year.

I wear mine on a leather strap from Pav

    Recent releases

And (available in a few variations)

However also a big fan of the mm200

I was going to say that.

The Eterna Kontiki below/above is an excellent suggestion, too.

    Something from Sinn?

My first thought for a £1k diver would be the Trident GMT

Thanks for all the replies so far folks, Longines weren't on my radar so I'll take a look at that.

In terms of brands, I'd prefer not to have another Seiko - I really like my turtle and will keep that, but planned on something from another brand.

WRT Omega, second hand Seamasters can be had for around £1k, I think - is there any reason to consider these over a new Oris/Sinn or similar? I really like the 2254/64 or 300M, and wouldn't mind a quartz, but just wondered how the F&F compares.

Ollech & Wajs C-1000 comes in at £1100 iirc

Or Laco's variously-coloured MB divers come in around £900 -

Davosa, Certina, Epos, Mido and Zeno also spring to mind as brands with some great divers around this price.

The next diver on my list will be an orange Caribbean from Eddie
This is going to be less then a grand apparently.
    Failing that a PRS82?
    As already mentioned CWC Diver.
    Or...
Can you get a second hand U1 for less than a £1000? It will still look brand new!

The Kontiki is a big bugger at 44mm. The Titoni is a rather more modest 41mm.

    Oris aquis lightly used maybe.

But beware buying expensive watches blind on the internet. I bought an Oris and the clasp and bracelet were thinner than i thought from pics / vids online.

I'd be tempted to first look at the Oris Diver 65. I'd also be tempted to hold off and keep an eye on the market. £1,000 might buy you a lot more in a few months time than it will presently.

  25. #25
For £1000 I would by 3 Heimdallr Sharkey's and 3 Phoibos watches. You will then have 6 watches made to a very high standard, now that's got to better than one with an expensive name on the dial. Alternatively the Longines Hydro Conquest is nice, and the Christopher Ward C60-600 is superb (I have one)

Agree with this on both counts. I do like the looks of the Oris Diver 65 but it is probably a good time to shop around as well.

Another watch to throw into the mix is the Doxa sub 200. It does share similar design cues to the Seiko diver though.

You could get a nice used Aquaracer for that money. TAGs dont get much love here but they're great watches.

Now that really would be a waste of a £1000. Always go for quality, not quantity.

I know some have been disappointed with the quality of the quartz models, but i rather like the look of the yema superman heritage, offers something a little different i think.

I'll reserve judgement, but the doxa looks like its been designed to really hide its height, and is only 14mm to start with. The carribean looks great but much like the vanguard, looks like it might wear the 16mm it is. Although sounds like both will have the same level of customer service.

I noticed this one at Mark Worthington on promotion.

Titanium on rubber so should be light and wearable for a bulky diver.

Having tried a lot of watches in the sub £1000 bracket I couldn’t agree more with this!

I love mine. The ceramic bezel and overall quality is superb, the bracelet is a work of art!

I would be tempted to buy an Omega Seamaster.

I bought his one last month from est1897 for £1400, Private sale maybe cheaper. If you wait I expect there will be a short term dip in prices but in the long term more of an investment. Added difficulty in doing a face to face transaction atm.

I'm looking for a similar price range, maybe a bit more - say £1.5k - and am considering a Seamaster or a PO. Curious to know people's preferences on this.

+1 for Oris divers being excellent. Also, Oris doesn’t take the Mickey with its servicing costs.

Alternatively, how about one of the Damasko divers?
