    Pin / collar help

I need some advice on a stick pin in my Seiko Monster bracelet. All the other pins are straightforward, but this is driving me mad.

    So far:

Bergeon pin remover bent the pin
eBay special pin pusher resulted in 3 out of 4 replaceable tips bent
I’ve hit it with pin punch and hammer, that broke both the 0.8mm and 0.7mm punches

    It’s just one pin!

    Aargh! I’m going mad!

    Any ideas TZ collective?

    Dave

I’ve cheated and taken out the adjacent link, although looking at my other Monster for reference, it’s what I should have done in the first place.

Do Seiko glue / bond any of these? Are some never meant to be removed?

The Monster bracelet is amazing, and the whole pin-collar thing was pretty easy, except for the stuck one, that wasn’t the right one to be trying to remove anyway! Obsessional me is a bit cross that my pin remover bent and very slightly chewed the hole in the last link, but I have spares, so when the virus is over so will have a professional swap it.

When trying to shift stubborn pins or screws, heat and penetrating oil are your best friends.

Brief exposure to a flame, followed by penetrating oil (it’ll smoke, ensure the area is ventilated) should do the trick. After a dose of this treatment try to move the pin, if still stubborn repeat the process. Soaking in a small jar of penetrating oil, combined with a blast of ultrasonic, also helps. I’ve shifted all manner of corroded pins and screws this way, sometimes it takes a day or two, but the outcome is always the same and there’s only one winner.......me!

Patience is a virtue, heat it, soak it, ultrasonic it, eventually it’ll free up.
