Hi all,
Has anyone taken on this task or knows of someone willing to do so? I have been offered an 18k Daydate at a very reasonable price but it unfortunately has had diamonds set to the case shoulders :(
I’m no expert but I’m guessing they could be removed and gold soldered over? Just looking to gauge if this is too much of a project to take on.

Sounds like way too much effort. By the time you paid for the infill of the gold and polishing it would no longer be reasonable.
Thanks guys I did think as much, the watch is around £2k under where it should be so thought £1000 should cover it?
Ideally I’d like to save the watch and take on a bit of a project but don’t fancy ending up backwards financially.
I know nothing about gold or filling but I would imagine that if the gold isn't melted down and recast it would always have a seem line underneath.
Solder shouldn't be used to fill holes and as Rolex make their own gold I think you'd struggle to get the mix right to match the rest of the case.

I still think for £2k I would wait in this market. Opportunities for a cheap day date won't be far away.

As someone who has estimated to return after set watches back to original, don't bother.
Think why they picked this watch to be set with diamonds. They would not have set a perfectly good watch, it wouldn't make sense financially. Watches that get modified are either water damaged watches, so bodged movement together, new fake dial and hands to hide damage and you might as well diamond set the case at the same time. Or they are no longer waterproof due to corrosion (I had one which had a physical hole though the case, you could see light) so put a diamond bezel on and say sorry no longer waterproof due to bezel. Or the worst sort, stolen watches so they can't go back to Rolex. Again add diamonds to the case stopping it ever being sent back to Rolex for a serial number check.
Genuinely never ever seen a good after set watch that wasn't a dog. I would guess I have seen maybe 300-400 in the last ten years to estimate to return to original.
