Longleat is just up the road from me and like most local kids I worked there at Longleat Restaurant in 1971-1972 as an 18 year old.
Alexander (Viscount Weymouth then) often popped into the kitchens to poach the waitresses for his own dinners and 'parties'. The restaurant then was run by JG Boyes of Southampton and merely leased from Lord Bath so technically were not Longleat staff.
The younger waitresses in particular used to hide in the Ladies toilet when he came on the pilfer as their older colleagues would warn them off saying that other duties might be expected.
That said he was always full of fun and had a word for everyone.
Such a character and will be missed.

A sad loss, I sold Ice Cream at Longleat for a few years whilst at uni, one of my most enjoyable jobs ever.
