Thank you! Forgive my ignorance, is a skylark different from a lark?

It's probably duplicated as the skylark is the most commonly seen, there are are sky, wood and shore plus other much rarer

We have barely made a dent in the contents of the four freezers we have, so my first, second and even third choices will likely be available for some time yet!

Been in the garden most of the morning reseeding a bit of lawn, no contrails hardly any traffic noise apart
from a lot of extremely loud motorbikes i.e. at very high revs, they are not going to the supermarket or chemist.

Not much exciting on the bird front, we have pigeons and blackbirds nesting in the garden but didn’t even see
any gulls or magpies which we usually get a lot of.

But having put the seed down this will probably change.

Per some other posts, I'm happy to donate to the fundraiser whatever my additions have cost.

Lesser black-backed gull and little grebe still need to be added to the list.

I'm wondering what the final tally will be. Usually 100 is possible even within a 'big day' challenge, but with mostly isolated to gardens and local, it's much more of a challenge, so very curious on the final tally. We have a forest behind our house, and the local walk goes through another forest, past playign field, and round a reservoir, so there's usually a decent mix of habitat despite being in a housing area.

Some very cool additions on the list - would love to have green woodpecker near us, linnet as well.

Shocked to have seen a goldfinch on our patio this morning

We have regular pairs of robins, blue tits and starlings at our feeders, but the yellow flash really stood out

Was quite chuffed, even though it didn't stay long!

Just donated myself for the 3 pairs and golden bad boy!

Nice pic of one of the blue tits this morning, they love these fat balls:

A goldfinch prompted me to start this thread :)

I saw a red kite just now, very low over our garden. It’s a huge thing; I’ve only ever seen them circling high up over fields before now.

    Thanks MrCurta

    So,

Living in Brazil I hope I can add a couple to this list...

    Blue and Yellow Macaws
    Hummingbirds
    Ibis
Benchovy (spelling?) makes a great call
Grey necked wood rail (mother plus about 5 babies)
Shoudl say this is in the garden, if its “ever seen” I was in the Amazon the other week... :D

Will try and keep an eye out for more

Thanks for adding a bit of tropical colour Zoiksy. I’ve added the Benchovy but I can’t find it using Google - be good to know the ‘official’ name.

    Thanks again!

Thanks mate, much better than my poor effort. Say hello to the Hummingbirds for me. Not sure if Benchovy is a colloquialism or a typo but either way it's bound to be a singular addition. Take care.

The Kites are so cool. I'm in Hertfordshire, so they are more common for me than most others, apart from the bloody pigeons

    Black birds
    Blue tits
    Collared doves
    Magpies
    Wood pigeon
Starlings - are they miniature Velociraptors? So aggressive where food is concerned.

The Swifts should be about due soon as well.

That’s a good list. I’ve added Egyptian Goose to the list (which Google tells me is a duck). Let me know if I have that wrong and I’ll correct it.

Using this as a feeble excuse to gratuitously post my photo of a nuthatch, one of my favourite birds.

This was taken in Perthshire in July last year, when we had at least three pairs of nuthatches visiting the feeder in the garden of a cottage we had rented.

They seem to be the most aggressive of birds, forcing the finches, tits and even the pheasants to vacate the feeder.

I tried for a week to try to get a shot of one as it launched itself back into flight, but despite the perfect lighting conditions the burst rate on my D750 proved woefully inadequate. They move like rapiers, and even when anticipating the launch (they "ready" themselves for flight) all I ended up with was photos of tail feathers.

A good excuse to upgrade the camera, or so I have told Mrs Gunn

    Nice picture WG.

As it was a timing issue, I think a new watch is in order as well as the camera ;).

On my evening walk I see Emu, Ostrich, Spoonbills, Great Grey Owl, Snowy Owl, Vermiculated Eagle Owl, Burrowing Owl, Tawny Frogmouth, Vultures, Flamingos, White Stalks.

I'm lucky to have 80+ acres to walk round when people have gone home.

From my garden, Red Kite, Wagtail, Goldfinch are the only ones I know. Going to sort out the feeder today i think.

    You are very lucky indeed.

I love the Wildlife Park and, but for Covid-19, would have renewed my season ticket. I have spent many happy hours there, as it really is a photographer's paradise. The falconry displays in the summer are the icing on the cake.

Just got back from delivering food to my folks, and overhead there was a pair of Ravens having a wail of a time (or should that be a honk, they were kronking at each other the whole time).
The most intellignet birds, I love them.
The pair that live near my folks are very entertaining. Some days it is like they have just remembered how cool it is to fly, and they muck about diving and spinning all over the place, with no apparent purpose whatsoever.
There are recorded incidences of Ravens flying upside down for hundreds of metres. Just because they can.

Great weather at the minute too, let's me escape the people pottering around here on the lanes.
We had one member still drive in (through the exit) during lock down and I can guarantee you on Easter weekend there will be people at the gate at some point.
I'll check the cameras when I get back to work.

Yes, I think I got a glimpse of one two nights ago at dusk but it was so short I decided it could have been my mind playing tricks. I’ve got a blurry flight photo now but will try to get a more decent one.

I haven't seen my first swallow yet, but I did see the first bat over our garden the evening before last.

Exciting because I finally put up a bat box on the front of the garage last weekend. Hopefully it will get used.

We have one or two that visit our garden as well; I love to see them but they give my wife the creeps.

Thought I would add a Massachusetts bird. These birds were nearly brought to extinction with the use of DDT and I thought I would never seen one. I am surprised that the town I live in seems to have a good population of them we feed them mealworms at the feeder the picture is from my Daughter and it's hard to get a good one as they do not let you get close to them.

    Eastern Bluebird

A very welcome contribution, thank you. Looks a striking bird and a nice picture from your daughter.

Forgive my ignorance, is it the same kind of Bluebird as from Zip-a-dee-doo-dah?

Our daily walk was quite late today, but happy to hear first willow warbler of the year, which seems another for the list.

I always look forward to hearing them, real sound of approaching summer
