I expected more derision to be honest, not sure I like the new and fluffy TZUK!

I'll take some more pics tomorrow, get some better ones in natural light than with my lights at home.

Yep that looks pretty good. Well done.

I’ve got a spare bezel, keeper and buckle for mine......but an electric hob and the blow torch is at work

Did you quench it in oil at all?

You can buy pre-treated ones on e-bay although that takes the fun out of it and if by any chance you did cock up replacements are easy enough to source.

    Well done, great result.
Easy way to get a totally unique look to your G.
Not really blue, but I am not sure that matters.
Interestingly, the video linked earlier in the thread is not bluing (in the watch sense), the oild quench has nothing whatsoever to do with the blue colouring seen on trad hands, it is heating in a small dish of bradd filings to about 270-280 Deg C, no quench.

No, I just let it cool naturally. I didn't want the blackness that seems to come from the oil quenching, was happy with the iridescent effect.

Neat look. Might have found another use for my kiln.
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.

I have a compelling urge to do this to a Vostok.

    I think it looks amazing.

I must confess I had no idea that the list price on these was £450 until I Googled them last night - it would have been an expensive experiment if it had gone horribly wrong!

I think that looks brilliant - great job! Would love to see a Rolex that way too, come on someone bored!

I know almost nothing about g shocks, presume it’s not easy to get a negative display on this? Think that would complete it personally

Really hope when we’re allowed out again you wear it to the pub and some watch guy comes up and enquires about it - then see how they react to you explaining you took it apart and flame grilled it!

I’m actively trying to resist buying another bracelet and bezel set, just to take the blowtorch to it...! Nice work PH, that looks really good.

Excellent, love your 'do it' attitude.
If you get bored with the finish, you can change the finish by heating up again until you get the colour you want then quench to fix it. Range from straw (a bit like yours) to a lovely purple.

    There's a thought.

I'm pretty sure I saw a page somewhere showing how to swap displays like that, I don't think it's impossible.

It seemed such a mad idea, but the result is unexpectedly brilliant! Bronze for those who don't like bronze. A couple more photos showing the final effect on the bracelet and bracelet / watch combo would be nice.
Now you've got several more weeks to fill.... so you'll need some more mad ideas!

i totally love it. And a very brave move, unaltered by others' opinions.

A refined punk aesthetic can be far more enjoyable than everything looking factory finished and 'perfect'.

It's also in tune with the whole G takes-a-beating vibe.

    Bravo.

I really like what you’ve done there, would putting the bare assembled watch, minus movement and bits into the oven and gradually heating till it reaches the desired colour give a more uniform finish

Aren’t Vostok plated brass? Depends on the vintage and model I guess, I’m not sure giving them the flame treatment would work out so well.

I think that Amphibias have stainless steel cases and Komandirskie chromed brass cases. Meranom describe the Amphibia cases as 'stainless steel', not that you can rely on their descriptions. At least it's not going to be too expensive a mistake with replacements at around $25. The bracelets can only be improved anyway.

The watch was still too blingy for the apocalypse so I decided to tear it down again... and rough it up with a dremel... and heat it again... and quench it in oil.

And I'm happier with it this time!

You could have tied it to the back of the car then driven round the block a few times to create a "beaten" look.

The spare untouched silver one looks like it's begging for go. So tempted, I think I might have to buy a blow torch. Annoying that the hob isn't gas.

I fancy stone washing my spare.

Anyone have any tips short of shaking it n a tub with stones from the garden?

I have to be honest I prefered your original result. But if you're happier then that's the ultimate result

I think this is a whole new business opportunity - send your watch to this guy with a generous cheque and he'll (nearly) wreck it! Genius! And the more they pay the more havoc he'll wreak!

Very nice job and post. Wouldn’t have done the dremel job personally. Thanks for sharing!

Well boredom got the better of me.

Turns out that a broken up tea pot lid works better than stones.

Looks better in the metal but I’m unsure until I install it tomorrow.

I can always get them bead blasted anyway
