    Tokyo 2020 Omegas What now??

    https://monochrome-watches.com/omega...an-only-price/

So with all the Omega Tokyo 2020s being released for an event that won't take place until 2021, does this make them worthless or priceless?

    That is a great question!

Also guessing the latter. Pretty sure I've also seen a couple of forum members flouting theirs a couple of months ago.

Seems like Omega still has stock of the aqua terra and SMP:

I'd snap one of the white faced Speedmasters up, they are rather lovely (wishful thinking I know)

Sent through the ether by diddling with radio waves

Lol unfortunately not. "Sharing" is the better word in hindsight

I heard Steve Redgrave on Radio 4 yesterday stating that it will still be called Tokyo 2020 due to marketing/licensing agreements even though it will happen in 2021.

I guess this is one good example of why.

Yes, "the Games will keep the name Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020"...link.

I'd happily have the red or green bezel speedmasters but imagine the Olympics being postponed till next year will make them hold their value well.

I'm surprised that Omega don't already have a C-19 tie-in limited Edition watch by now?

Not sure why a global pandemic driven crisis where thousands die, resulting in a delay in the olympics, now make these more collectible....Another soulless heavily diluted speedie limited edition. The green, blue and red are perhaps marginally more attractive/interesting aside from the olympics association.

That white and black one looks right up my street

Omega would rather crush them and send to a scrap yard before slashing the price for us.

Makes sense if the 4 year event cycle is going to continue as planned, Paris 2024 etc.

Presumably same for European and World Cup football.

As an owner of two, the panda and red sun version, I really don’t care!

The games will still be called Tokyo 2020, the watches are still lovely, still a low number limited edition and still sold out so why would they suddenly become even more valuable or harder to get because of a quirk of nature and a delayed games. I don’t see prices getting higher on chrono24

In any case, I doubt many people bought these for the association to the games and more for the colours and designs. I know that is why I got mine!

    Just my two cent!

I dont think the value will differ right now but maybe at some point in the future, all due to a virus :D

The Japanese government has privately concluded that the Tokyo Olympics will have to be cancelled because of the coronavirus, and the focus is now on securing the Games for the city in the next available year, 2032.

According to a senior member of the ruling coalition, there is agreement that the Games, already postponed a year, are doomed. The aim now is to find a face-saving way of announcing the cancellation that leaves open the possibility of Tokyo playing host at a later date. “No one wants to be the first to say so but the consensus is that it’s too difficult,” the source said. “Personally, I don’t think it’s going to happen.”

"In response to that article, Tokyo 2020 organisers released a statement declaring that Japan's prime minister Yoshihide Suga had "expressed his determination" to hold the Olympics and Paralympics and that all stakeholders remained focused on delivering the event. The IOC said the suggestion of a cancellation was "categorically untrue"."

Unfortunately I’ll be past my prime by the 2032 Olympics :(
It's just a matter of time...
