Do I just walk away? I spotted this X-33 on a well known site but just spotted the state of the lugs? Do they look damaged beyond repair?

Walk away. Buy it and the damaged lugs will bug you each time you look at it, never mind wear it. Keep on looking for a better example.

I suppose everything is fixable. Depends on the price ultimately.

Agreed. Scratches on the underside of the lugs is a pet hate of mine, even heavy micro scratches these days would stop me buying a watch unless it was vintage and they blended in with the rest of the case.

Begs the question what did the owner use to cause so much damage.

Thanks guys. It would bug me - looks like he used a screwdriver or drill to leverage out. The price is steep and a private seller so not cover. I’ll keep on searching - and there is a a WTB also guys!!

Got to wonder who would buy a reasonably expensive watch then happily butcher it like that to change the strap.

I love my X-33, but I couldn't put up with those butchered lugs!

    leave it.

    Wow! Impressive.

I don't mind watches showing wear, front and back, we use them, we change straps.

I've not seen anything like that for a while!

Walk away, as others have said, if they did that too the lugs what else could be damaged. Not worth the risk.

That looks pretty bad to me, I wouldn’t risk it.

That’s impressive damage, I don’t understand how that’s possible?! Strap changing with a chisel maybe?

I recon it’s hard to tell if is that strap making it look like a horror show

Get the seller to take the pics without the strap

I simply can’t believe it can be that butchered

That looks nasty I'd give it a miss tbh.

I’m guessing that’s Luke Skywalkers own watch - tried to change the strap with his lightsaber by the looks of it!

Definitely walk away, I actually think your Breitling Aerospace Night Mission was the ultimate ana-digital but the X-33 would be my second choice.

Of course its fixable, a bit of laser welding, a bit of lapping, it could be perfect again. The difficulty is finding someone to do it and at a price that is economic. I really don't know the cost but would hazard a guess ( really is a pure guess) of circa £300. Add in the cost of stripping and rebuilding the watch and then double that figure for 'risk and faffage'....you are at about £1k. I guess that is less than a new case from Omega and the rebuild so economic IF the price is right ....AND you can be bothered....JUST bid appropriately. if you can't find/get someone to repair it at an affordable price you relist it and should get most of your money back.

As stated above...laser weld titanium? Isn’t that really specialist...as in have to weld under an inert gas atmosphere or vacuum?

Is it not bits of the strap edge sticking out that look like damage ? A badly frayed strap ?
    Cheers

Ah...I see it now! Makes sense because I was struggling to see how you could create that ‘chasm’ in the lug whilst changing a strap! So on closer inspection, it just looks like a few marks and a slight gouge to one of the lugs.

The state of the lugs though would still be an indicator that this is the type of guy that could and would easily botch a battery replacement. I’d be walking away from this.
