Thread: The 2020 British Summer Time Challenge

+1 now for the Aerospace. Warmer weather and wrist tend to make my quartz watches creep this way... cooler times bring it back. Overall though, pleased with +1 given that the watch is 13 years old.

In the last fortnight, one week of consistently low PR gaining a second, one normal week losing it. +11s. If I hadn't been a smartarse adding seconds by leaving it crown up, then over the 11 weeks it would be -4. But I did, so....

Really impressed with the timekeeping - overnight positioning helps of course!

    Currently at -3 seconds.

    Has it been regulated?
I've currently worn my everyday for a week and it's lost well over 2 minutes!

First update for a few weeks, as I have been sulking.

Picked up the watches to take a pic about 10 days ago. Noticed the BB58 was about 0.5s slow, so thought I would wait until the following day for it to catch up. Completely forgot. When I did look it had stopped.

I gave up on the Seiko a few days later.

One out of three still running.

Overall a good experiment that showed just how accurate the BB58 is, with very little positional variation.

For an answer to what the superlative guarantee covers, I reckon a fresh thread would help - I doubt anyone is reading this regularly beyond a dozen of us! (I've a vague memory of reading someone saying that it's as worn regularly, but it was so long ago, I don't trust it at all)
Thanks for this. I'll start a fresh thread soon. In the meantime, the GS remains bang on after 12 weeks:

    Bi-weekly check for the Ultronic.

+2.37 so a gain of 24 seconds over two weeks. Pretty consistent +12 second per week gain overall, nicely within spec.

Becoming very tempted to correct it now though, will confirm if I do and remove it from the challenge.

Problem I'm having this week is that the hot weather is making the bracelet sometimes a bit too tight for comfort. I cant remember the PR on it, but I believe it should be good enough to see me through.....

Another three weeks would take you to 15 weeks - half the length of BST. I guess it would be a bit under 3'15" fast by then. Could you make it to then?

Yeah that's an idea, half way point would be a nice spot to bow out. I'll go with that.

Sat edit: it's now 90 days gone, 120 to go. If BST is a week, we've done Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Lost one second in just three days, this is a new and frankly alarming deterioration in timekeeping. I knew banging it into a doorframe wasn't very clever

If I hadn't deliberately added seconds on by leaving it crown up now and then, it would now be about -10s, so not as good as St. Just's Sub.

    -------

Next sunday, 15 weeks in, will be the halfway mark.

14 week update for the Grand Seiko 9F. Whilst the photo suggests that it's bang on, I've noticed that it is gaining fractionally at around +0.5secs

Have to admit, I'm taking the sudden deterioration from -1/6 s/d to -1/3 s/d quite badly

    150th consecutive day of wear

However, I might have to go away for a few days next week, on a trip where this watch wouldn't be suitable. I knew I should have got round to buying a winder....

The 2020 British Summer Time Challenge

FOIS has been worn a bit recently so has gained far more than normal, now at +87 sec.

PAM312 is out of the race as it stopped last week.

Here we are, the half way point and final check-in for the Longines Ultronic. You were almost spot on with your estimation there, after exactly 15 weeks it is running at +3.17. Well within the original claims of "accurate to within 1 minute per month" from well over 40 years ago so I'm very pleased with that.

The one and only Tuning Fork in the challenge is now leaving the building as I'm about put it back to correct time.

Saturday edit: This morning it's at +1 seconds, and as I'll be going away for a week, I've put it away, and after 111 days, am retiring it from the challenge.

I wore it 152 days in a row, never winding it, and never correcting the time. This coming week I'll be wearing a 1970 manual Seiko instead, another watch I would happily have as my only watch.

The rest of you: only 99 days to go!

(Later edit: if I hadn't done the crown-up-overnight-thing as and when, it would have about -15 seconds, so -1 second a week over the challenge. Having said that, there's been far more wandering back and forth over the last couple of weeks, so I doubt that would have been replicated over the second half of BST)

Sorry to see it leave the challenge but that's just incredible for a mechanical (and better than most HAQ specs).
