Thank you to everyone who took part, extra big thank you to everyone who provided regular updates, and an enormous thank you to Murdoc and Captain RockNRoll for keeping their mechanicals going for the whole time. Having got mine only to the halfway point, I know what it needed of them.

My favourite was Murdoc's Snowflake - the only Spring Drive entered and a stone cold classic - it was a pleasure to see the very regular photos of that. I also enjoyed that it spent almost the whole period getting closer to correct time, not going away

The challenge is simple: can your watch go through the 30 weeks until the clocks go back to GMT at the end of October without needing adjusting?

There are different classifications: Quartz, HAQ, Spring Drive, Mechanical and sub-£1,000 Mechanical.

For the HAQ, the expectation is that the watches won't need adjusting, the competition will be purely the accuracy over the 7 months. For regular quartz, part of the challenge will be whether it stays accurate enough for you not to need to correct it.

For mechanicals, there's also the much harder challenge of keeping the thing going at all. How you manage this is up to you - automatic winding, hand winding, electric winder, all are permissible.

I think last year only one mechanical made it through, Sean's Explorer I. I would love to see something like an 8 day Panerai entered.

THE WATCHES DO NOT NEED TO BE WORN

To enter post a photo of the watch taken today in front of time.is, with the date visible, and tell us what category its in.

    Multiple entries are encouraged!

Every couple of weeks please return to the thread with a fresh picture, so we can track its progress. I'll be making little tables as we go, so we can compare.

I’ll try again this year, hopefully I can do a little better. The mechanicals are a challenge but hopefully the battery in the quartz will stay the course this time.

I really wish I had got round to getting a winder on time for now, so that I could have entered both my autos.

Submitting an auto this year.. I should be able to keep this one alive to the end, and I've worked out a way to keep it accurate too. Thanks for running it OP

Forgot to say, little nudges for balancing the gain and loss are wholly valid. Eg once every ten days or so, I rest my OCG crown up overnight. It's been running since mid Feb and is still bang on.

Though anyone who's prepared to spend 7 months just taking what they're given will get plenty of respect!

I'm going to give it a go with this...

I’m going to enter two -

The quartz - Seiko Landmaster SBDW005. Kinetic quartz movement, should be fine.

Mechanical under £1000 - Seiko ‘Save the ocean’ turtle.

Hopefully I don’t get too OCD with the date. Fingers crossed. If only the mechanical had an independent hour hand, life would be much easier. I don’t think travel will be much of a factor....

I’m considering another mechanical, my IWC. I’ll have a think of worth doing, maybe doable with lockdown to rotate both mechanicals.

Pic taken with my Frogman - all 5 of my atomic Gs are syncing the same, so I’ll use that as a reference!

Makes sense, so much easier for a 1-watch member.

I travel weekly and find it impossible to keep my watches going while I'm away, and have 8 regular wearers, so I'm 99.9% confident I'd wouldn't be able to keep one watch running (I don't have an 8-day Panerai). Otherwise I'd be in. Thanks for running this.

The 2020 British Summer Time Challenge

I’ve always wondered how my radio controlled G Shock would fare with the auto sync off. So I’ll join in with my GW-5000. It synced this morning so is spot on, I’ll turn the auto sync off today and see how it runs naturally with no help from the Anthorn Radio Station.

Picture later tonight as I’m currently at work.

(sorry for the poor photo, kitchen lighting not the best)

Here’s my entry into the Spring Drive category. GS Snowflake, currently 67s slow as I know it gains slightly. Hoping to keep this as my daily wearer until the end of BST.

A second entry for me: I've decided to enter this Seiko Presage - I don't wear it much, but I'll handwind it with the intention of getting hold of a winder soon.

I'm pleased to see at least one SD, as I've always been very keen to see what their long-term accuracy proves to be.

Sorry for the crap photo quality, but it does nicely capture the big scuff I put on one of the lugs while diving recently. D’oh.

Thanks, I’ve had a couple of spring drives in the past (a 600m Marinemaster - whatever happened to those, don’t see many about nowadays; and a GS Diver). Over around a month I couldn’t tell whether they were gaining or losing, they were bang on.

I haven’t had it long, but this Snowflake seems to gain a couple of seconds per week. I’m also interested to see how consistent it is over a longer period.

Great idea. The same question has gone through my mind before now as well. I seem to recollect that the manual for my 5600 (module 3063) gives the standard +/- 15 spm which feels pretty conservative to me.

I am late to this challenge so I will forgo this year but will look for it next year, although we start and end DST here in the States on different Sundays in March and November than in Europe but I am sure I can just follow along since most all in here are from the UK and other parts. I would be in the Sub $1000 area but I wouldn't have any issue because I have a manual wind only watch and winding it every day is a routine that I enjoy.

With the crown pulled out, light reverse pressure can stop the second hand on non-hacking movements, at least it works on my Speedy.

Almost certain to be my Seiko Presage - last year it did very well because I was wearing it all day, when it is very accurate. Being handwound once a day and then just sitting there for most the day is proving to be much less of a happy regime for it.

Your Presage is with the 6R15 movement, correct? It would have been interesting to compare with my the 'lesser' movement in my Turtle, knowing how wildly Seiko's unregulated movements can vary. You could wear it for a few hours a day instead to keep it ticking over. However always a pain to keep an auto going if you're not wearing it.

My Globemaster lives on my wrist all day every day, just as the Presage did last year, so that's not a possibility. I've read a few times about how much better this grade of Seiko movement is when worn all the time, and that certainly fits in with what I found last year - I think I wore it from the end of March to the end of June without having to correct it. And then it had to be put into storage for a while.

Fair enough, why change something when it's working for you! I have a 6R15 and when wearing it consistently, it's performed well enough.

Funnily, I thought I'd be rotating through my watches during lockdown, ended up pretty much with the two watches in this challenge and occasionally my Ming 19.01 when on a walk and the sun is shining. Maybe I'll get a few more Natos to keep me excited!

I don't know but if @ben4watches keeps his manual wind Breitling going until the end he deserves a medal, no a trophy, no an award!

The 4 watches I keep in my Carapaz case get wound daily. It used to be just the gmt to keep an eye on the date change (which has been fine for the 7 last weeks) and the Reverso to keep the triple date and moonphase correct so should not be too much of an issue to keep the Breitling going for 6 months.

I would be in the Sub $1000 area but I wouldn't have any issue because I have a manual wind only watch and winding it every day is a routine that I enjoy.

I've been up to the mountain and the voice in the clouds says: you can still enter. A photo of the watch in front of time.is is essential!
