Also often known as "Vanity Plates" which is a rather good description as far as I can see.
Yes, I know it's gay but it's not for me (I already have one  )
did a search on a few sites and the same number appears on all of them but the price variation is considerable.......WTF
Any recommendations from the knob jockeys out there?

Indeed there is variation STM, the dealers are usually listing for clients at roughly 3x what they'll actually hand over on a sale.
These guys have some decent plates pretty reasonable - http://www.capeplates.co.uk
Some bargains on eBay if you're sharp, I've bought and sold a couple

5 JON @ £32,500
Sweet, I'm having that one
Seems apt, your missus says 5 seconds is about your max
Respect the past, live the present, protect the future
... or for the same effect you could write 5 JON on a bit of cardboard with a marker and stick it in the back window; and save £31,499.50

I'm happy with my plate at the moment though thanks :D
PEN 1 S
Always remember when I saw a Merc in Cheltenham a few years back with 5 EX
Often touted by a number of websites - my missus made an offer via one (a lot less than advertised) and got it.
Do some research and offer is my advice - I doubt that they are flying out of the door at the moment.

Had loads and an awful lot of the plates advertised on private sites are still with the DVLA, at a lower price it should be noted.
With the old and new prefix, it's not that hard to get a plate which is right for you, just need to play around a bit.
Basic suggestion, but have a try.
Now sorted thanks to a good friend. What a site this is, I love you all x x x x x
Well, not all, obviously

I've used them in the past and they are pretty reasonable and have great customer care.
Best of luck. :)
I still can't believe you guys can buy and sell your numbers like that. I have vanity plates and if NYS didn't have them available I would have to wait for the current owner to surrender them then apply to the state. I know Delaware has a similar settup to you guys as my brother in law was offered a large sum for one of his plates.

Whole chunks of my life come under the heading "it seemed like a good idea at the time".
On my walk to the station on the way home there's often a nice Bentley parked up with the plates "789 KO".
I've assumed it has either a boxing or wrestling connection, but I don't recognise the driver.

The gov't pulled the plate after a few weeks and the story actually made the news. The "owner" tried to argue that it read "fake" and that it related to his work in the plastics industry....

There used to be a car with the plate 6ULDV8 but I haven't seen it in years and when I tried the DMV site said not available.

The DVLA auctions, held every 3 months, are the best guide for prices actually being paid. Best advice is to make an offer based on this info. Don`t forget that buyer's premium & VAT puts the hammer price up by around 25%.

This morning in Uxbridge, I spotted "N1MFO" on a Black Landcruiser (120 series).....driven by, yes, a woman.
The thing that I found really telling was that it had "MANIAC" in small letters on the bottom edge! So read like
N1MFO
.....MANIAC.....

Completely agree with this, seen it happen a lot - basically the third party company will buy the unissued plate from the DVLA and sell it on to you for an extra couple of hundred quid - and most likely charge you for the assignment fee too! Obviously doesnt happen with all plates but does happen regularly i believe.Originally Posted by burnsey66
