RIAC
I really needed a haircut before CV shutdown the country.
Now my head hair and back hair are now merging seamlessly into one

Going to go long
Glad I’ve not been the only one thinking what the heck to do.
Been threatening a bone head for years so told the wife she better get on YouTube or else.
Pitch
I normally have a shortish beard and ‘short at the sides longer on top’ from the Barbers. I’m counting myself lucky that heading into my 5th decade I still have the same mop of hair I’ve always had, in fact now the grey is creeping in it’s thicker than ever.
I wasn’t sure whether to get out the clippers, until I read about the sad passing of Kenny Rogers - and the accompanying picture has given me my whole Covid 19 hair and beard style inspiration! In a couple of months I might even have the start of a mullet going on

Been doing bare clippers and then blade for years on a decreasing patch, I thought I might just let it grow the duration head and beard, check how many shades of grey grow in, I mean, not going out so who’s going to see the Wookiee?
Lucky enough to have a full head of hair that grows quite thick. I reckon I’ve got about a week and a half until I get to the ‘bouffant’ stage. I really don’t want to resort to clippers...the all-one-length microphone head is not a good look!
I’m not concerned about hairdressers but terrified supplies of this might run out...

I fortunately cut my own hair. A habit I've had since uni days when I was skint.
The skills definitely come with practice and experience. Having good clippers also make a massive difference. I've had loads of really bad haircuts when I was a noob and had crappy clippers.
Come on then you self-declared godlike artistes de coiffre -

or it didn't happen!
managed to bag a set of clippers the day the shops were ordered to close... having two boys too who luckily had short haircuts recently it will give me time to soak up the youtube videos on what to do.
In university days I used to clipper my own hair and my flatmates too we ended up looking like a bunch of leftwing extremists but it grows back

Hair clippers have gone the same way as flour and toilet rolls. Amazon seems to have run out of many brands.
However, the Wahl Colour Pro Cordless gets good reviews. I managed to get one with the grocery delivery from Tesco!
Can’t get any clippers as on a 12 week lockdown and can’t even get a slot for a delivery... Brian May hairdo coming to a bungalow near you
For anyone who has a clipper cut, I've been DIYing for years now. The fine detail isn't quite salon standard but Bea or sam usually check the back for me anyway.
Wahl is the brand to go for, and these will probably outlast most of us. Proper supplier to the profession, too.
"Well they would say that ... wouldn't they!"
another vote for wahl clippers, ive had the 'current' ones for 20+ yrs and they are still going strong - like others i just get someone else to to the back of my neck so it doesnt look like a ski slope .
Are the £11 version any good, or do I need to spend more and go up to £50.
My new forum motto is going to be - "Measure twice / cut once"
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wahl-Homepr...646184&sr=8-42
There's no question that the salon-quality ones are superior; with home use they're likely to last for decades, too. If you're just looking for something to get you through the current situation these are probably fine, as long as they have a decent range of guards in the pack.
Been doing my own since Uni, literally the last 2 cuts decided to start returning to a barber, glad I didn’t throw the clippers out.
I start with an 8 on top, fade back to a 6 at the rear of the top & then 6/4/3/2 down the back & sides to blend it all in. My wife then does the wings around my ears (a big proof point you cut your own as clippers never get it properly) and neatens the back edge up.
Jobs a good’un
Growing it....and taking a break from manscaping!
tbh i have no idea what these would be like (i have a professional set) , i'd look at it like this - its the difference between £2 haircut and a £10 one (i've yet to find anything in life where cheaper =better or 'just as good' quality - spend a bit extra and they will probably last most of your lifetime.
I have a set of Wahl - wireless version. Hardly used them (maybe 4 times, between barber visits) as the barber is just much more convenient. They were only around £20-30 from memory (similar to those linked above I suspect, but rechargeable). They are fine and I wouldn't suggest the need to spend more for the casual home trimmer! Mine will certainly be getting more use soon!
My 12 year old daughter gave me a grade 2 yesterday, the wife salvaged the situation best she could
Tin of Dapper Dan, that’s what you mountain hooligans want! Sticks your hair down like shit on a shovel!
Normally use the Philips MG7710/13 7000 series 12 with no guard. But hell, not going anywhere, so courtesy of Mr Gillette !!!

I seem to be behind the times for everything. Running low on toilet roll and now can’t even find a set of half decent clippers online for delivery within the next fortnight. I think I’m going to end up cutting my hair with the kitchen scissors.
On the continent (well in the Netherlands at least), you use mm as well for the trimmer.
Maybe time for https://www.manscaped.com/
I used the 10% discount code by signing up to the newsletter as a new registration, and ended up with a full £10 off the £26.99p purchase price (I only expected a 10% discount of £2.69p)
Thank you Rod & Tony for your advice.
I never knew the wedged guards were for around the ears.
Just waiting for the £16.99p clippers to arrived within the next week.
I haven't been to a barbers' shop for 25 years.
My wife cuts my hair (a zero all over) once a week during the summer & fortnightly the rest of the year. We've always used Wahl products.
My experience of Wahl is that you'll get about a hundred decent haircuts out of a cheap pair before the blades blunten* enough to be noticeable. I normally buy them when I see them reduced to less than a tenner in TKMaxx (and always have a spare set ready-to-go in case of emergencies, eg. the ones being used breaking halfway through a trim, which has never happened, BTW).
As to the actual haircut; practice makes perfect.
*I believe that's the first use of the word 'blunten' on this forum. I thought it was a fairly common word.
