Best TV opening titles ever - A Coronatime thread

I would have been going out for a drink tonight, but instead I'm having a virtual pint later with some of the chaps. The other night we were reminiscing about old TV shows.

So in the absence of actually going anywhere at all for the foreseeable, my mind is wandering in multiple directions, including this one. Just how cool were the opening titles and music of those shows from yesteryear?

I'll kick off with this one (turn your speakers well up!):

    Enjoy!
So clever my foot fell off.

Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em, for the incredibly clever Ronald Hazlehurst theme music alone.

    The Professionals and The Sweeney.

In recent years I think the Better Call Saul titles are really good.

Tales of the Unexpected. Loved that when I was a kid.

Hawaii-Five-0. It looked so glamorous, Steve McGarret stood in front of a 747 engine. Cool.

I think Starsky and Hutch deserve a mention.

If you were looking for closing credits, I’d go with the Incredible Hulk....

I preferred the bit where he spins round on the top of a high building and then gives a cheesy grin to the camera.

That Battle of the Planets intro brings back some memories.
I found the opening credits for Grange Hill naff but oddly entertaining.

All of the American programs when I was a child came with a huge slice of cheese, often overproduced and overacted but showing a glamorous side of life that a kid from a back water North East village could only dream of.

As Harry Enfield once said "You don't need to tell me about sophistication, I've been to Leeds" (he was in character, obviously)

Streethawk. Often forgotten as it only ran for one series I think.

I think it's forgotten mostly because it was cack. A sort of ultra-low budget Knight Rider with a motorbike.

Still, I didn't realise Tangerine Dream did the title music.

Maybe I should start a new thread for really terrible TV shows of the 80's? Manimal would have to be a strong entrant...

Nah, BBC 2. On the front cover of the Radio Times back when it was Auntie only.

    Ah, BBC2?

A very odd bit of programming in so many ways.

    I'm not complaining mind!

I've around a dozen TD albums stashed in the loft and didn't realise they did the title track either If you're going to name Manimal then I'd like to nominate Automan as a close 2nd.

My nomination for best opening title ever, in fact one of the best shows ever...

Oh man, I used to love that. Thanks for reminding me; a real trip down memory lane.

On a similar note, The Sweeney end credits were also very melancholy.

Apparently they turned down Miami Vice to do Streethawk.
they are still on the go, although Edgar Froese has passed away he gave is blessing for the current line up to carry on after he'd gone.

    Ah "CHiPs" - great stuff.

The recent movie was actually quite a bit better than I was expecting (although somewhat crass in an Always Sunny in Philadelphia kinda way...)
