    Summer Holidays in Britain

If life returns to some kind of normality in the next six months, and you've the money to be able to afford a summer holiday, please consider spending it in the UK this year. It'll do small businesses good, and that will do us all good.

Let's hope that the Japanese, Chinese and American tourists don't adopt a similar attitude. These people spend vast amounts of money.

Why do you think I'm posting this? Spend less time thinking about how intelligent and perceptive you are, and more time being so.

The OP suggests we should holiday in the UK, which sounds good but it isn't. If the Japanese stayed in Japan etc, then that would do us enormous damage. Encouraging international holidays is a better worldwide boost. Just remember aircraft for a start.

Also there is no be to get offensive, the Draft Thread got closed closed for bad behaviour, the same could happen here if you don't keep it civil.

You're right Mick. On the other hand, if all the Brits stopped spending their winter heating allowance money in Spain and kept it in the UK, that would help the UK economy.

After months of being stuck in the sunny city, I shall be very eager to spend a week in the Dales getting pissed on

I thought you had to visit certain ladies in London to get that done to you.

When this is all over, I expect there will be significantly less international flight avialability, at least for a while.

Last year I was working upon Kyle of Lochalsh.
I promised to return for a holiday so hopefully, we might get the chance later in the year.
I’ve all but given up on Tuscany in June now .

I'll have to rebook my tickets for the US when all of this dies down, so that's where I'll be heading - supposed to go next month.
    Cheers,
    Neil.

Ah, if only we got the weather!

We have a cruise booked for later in the year, no idea what's likely to happen to that!
    Best Regards - Peter

I'd hate to be with you when you're on your own.

My sister got an email this morning from the owner of the cottage in Perthshire she had rented for the last week in April.

Obviously, she won't be going & the owner had requested previously that she didn't cancel & ask for a refund, but defer her stay until later in the year.

Today's email offered her three dates in September as possible substitutes. Each date is four times the price she has already paid.

I suppose it'll be the same everywhere when restrictions are lifted.

I think Mick P has a point. It’s probably better economically for everyone if, when the world has got a grip on this virus, to continue as we were previously.

I think the only danger with foreign travel is that if carriers and companies do end up going bust during this crisis, holiday costs will end up going up with fewer players in the market.

Same here - due to go mid-July for two week cruise around the Baltic, stopping at numerous countries and including two days in St Petersburg.

Can't see that happening to be honest.
So clever my foot fell off.

Yes, the Newcastle one. Like you though, I don't think it will happen. They'll be chasing us for the final payment soon too. We've also booked our St Petersburg tours with Alla Tours, (local Russian company, highly recommended if you didn't know about them), but haven't had to pay anything yet so easier to cancel if necessary.

Just waiting to see what happens now, it's all we can do.

    Yep, used Alla also.

    I will pm you.

We were due to be heading that way today, on route to the Isle of Skye for a couple of weeks.

    Now rearranged for next year.

Still not convinced that we will be able to get to the Lake District early in May, as having only the walking bit of the holiday, without the pub in the evening bit, wouldn’t quite be the same.

I have booked a ferry to Spain in September, I doubt very much if anyone will be travelling anywhere this year.

I hope I am wrong but thinking like this I wont be disappointed.

After this just being able to walk in a park or a library, watching a gig, getting on a bus just living normally will feel like a massive relief.
