    6645 is the code for a wristwatch and there isn't an 86 code listed for any country (UK is 99) so I'd call fake.

    I've sold some military parts 8 backs and 2 cases for nearly nothing
    Buyer realised one back was not genuine and decide to send back whole lot

    Personally I don't think it's necessarily a fake. I don't know much at all about nato stock numbers but the prefix 0552 is obviously R.N. It is possible the matelots have a different code for military kit issued from places with bases such as Gibraltar etc or commonwealth countries with naval facilities. I cannot see a fraudster making a balls up like that with 86 on a caseback. It ain't gonna be some scammer in Nairobi or Kowloon.
    The simplest solution may be to write to Silvermans who may possibly have records from Cabot Watch Company before they bought the company.

    Who is saying it's a "NATO" member? Have a read and inwardly digest before presenting as "case closed" ..Red cap eh..

    The easiest way to tell if that # is 100% fake, have any have ever turned up on Milsubs for example on ebay. We know where all Milsubs were issued from and most were O552 (RN clearance diver issue) or many more 0555 5517 (RM Poole SBS issue) Why would some scammer invent a credible fake ( with good stamped fonts) for a £70 G10 piece of quartz crap with a dodgy number? That's the real question.

    Buyer beware is probably better advice. I've noticed two fake back series.

    <- 0552/6644-86
    4312***
    479
    81

    9 recorded so far

    and;

    <- 0552/6645-89
    5415***
    586
    82

    5 recorded so far

    Terry
