Rolex Hulk on Gumtree - fishy ad or bargain

gents what do you think about this ad?

    https://www.gumtree.com/p/mens-watch...0lv/1369853158

I just saw this ad and thought it would be a great deal for someone (obviously if it’s OK lol)

I would be further interested but it’s above my budget right now (about 6K)

I hope I don’t break any rules by posting that so admin please delete in case I am.

    He’s selling a Daytona as well .

Both well under recent market prices , so could be a distress selling situation , however I see he’s using the same guarantee manual booklet for both photos, so I’d imagine there is a rabbit away.

I’ve messaged him for photos of his receipts and guarantee card , let’s see where this one ends up , I’ll keep you posted.

If I was thinking of buying a Rolex, would "gumtree" be my destination, hmm, now let me see?

Could be a ‘good’ time for scammers. Few weeks ago you’d instantly think fake/scam at low prices, now and coming weeks it won’t seem so abnormal.

Have any ‘hot’ rolex’ sold in SC lately?

With the super fakes about, it would be difficult for anyone to tell the difference even if he posted half decent photos.

I would avoid and only look at reputable sources to buy something like this

    rolex on gumtree

i was very keen on a kermit on gumtree that was around the same figure. in the end i felt that i could not tell whether it was genuine or not so left it. the guy wouldn't put it on eBay so there would be little comeback from it on gumtree.

I would rate Gumtree as only marginally better than the carboot sale app Shpock for buying watches

The only thing i bought from there was a concept 2 rowing machine, it never arrived, thankfully i got my PayPal money back. i would never buy anything without viewing it and if it was a watch have an expert with me too.

You are absolutely right, every time i put the word gumtree next to Rolex just doesn’t sound right.

Now on the other hand, I’ve bought many items (not watches) at a really low prices some time, some of them if they were on an eBay auction they would fetch even double the money, and talking to the sellers everytime, you would be surprised how many people don’t like eBay fees or just don’t want the fuss /shipping etc..

Oh yeah, I have bought loads on Gumtree, and sold a few. Remember that oddball who bought my Escort van?

But I still maintain that you should start from a position of "it's dodgy" and work towards satisfaction.

That makes a lot of sense btw.

Have any ‘hot’ rolex’ sold in SC lately?

the bad thing with the SC is that a watch and escpecially a Rolex with a really good price is usually sold within minutes,I usually see a possible buy too late there..

Why pay £8,500 when you can pay £2,000 for this beauty:

I’ve enquired about which dealer it was bought from and a copy of the receipt

    I’ll not hold my breath.

    Looks legit.

Ebay have had a few mass scam postings recently. Either like these with contact in images of some with clearly dodgy links in the description. Guess they only do it because they know someone will fall for it, however ridiculous it looks to the sane and sensible.

    Not just watches either:

A dealer would offer more if it was genuine..

    I had something similar recently
The seller gave me a sob story trying to convince me it was genuine then wanted a £500 holding deposit until I got down to view the watch..

Been winding her up , she still is reluctant to send evidence of purchase / source .

I’ve been asking about her Rolex Submarine, yes submarine not submariner and she hasn’t twigged yet.

Strange thing is that the seller had an old account and plenty of 100% positive feedback.
but having a closer look most of those transactions are less than £100,and no luxury items sales at all.

That could mean that the scammers are perhaps buying good looking accounts from eBay users ,or they just hack them untill they find a couple of victims and then disappear..

Anyway it’s getting very tricky nowadays and with the super copies, personally i am not buying anything from any private seller unless I have it inspected thoroughly (movement aswell) by a reputable watchmaker..

I agree it's a hacked account. Gives the listings a thin veneer of credibility posting from an account with lots of positive feedback.

You might just be able to get one for £6k by the end of the year!

I can’t see myself ever purchasing something worth more than ~£500 on gumtree, especially a watch, there are just too many good fakes about.

EDIT: The cheap Sub has gone but he has this which, if the Sub was dodgy, is presumably also some kind of scam/fake/con:

Heribert (?) is trying to shift his 2018 116610LN for £5,500 if anyone's interested:
