    And-Virus software for iMac

Later this week I switch ISP from BT to Vodafone … latter shows a significant £saving over 12months and improved landline service. However, I now need to consider buying an anti-virus package because Vodafone's F-Secure SAFE (free 6 months trial) seems to be weak on features (according to reviews) compared to other anti-virus software. Norton seems to be one of the best anti-virus packages but has a reputation for slowing BB speeds. I have one iMac, and two MacBooks. Can someone please recommend a good anti-virus package which does not slow my BB connection? Not too bothered about £cost.

    Thanks

Keep your machines updated and don't bother with any.

I’ve used Macs forever and never once installed anti-virus software and never once got a virus.

Not saying it can’t happen, but unlikely.

When I've run free malware software, 'threats' have occasionally been identified and zapped.

I use Sophos Home Premium. Runs very easily in the background, doesn’t seem to affect speed (even when scanning) and at £35 pa doesn’t break the bank.

Thank you Tony … Sophos is compatible with Mac OS X 10.12, 10.13, 10.14, or 10.15 … not compatible with El Capitan 10.11.6 - the latest OS compatible with my 2009 iMac.

But I'm upgrading to a later iMac model sometime this year.

Avast is good, I now use Bitdefender. Not free but reasonably priced.

It has caught a couple of "worms"

I've run Norton for the past ten years, to be honest I haven't a clue if it is worth it or not, but I can say in that ten years I've never had any virus problems (that I know of). each year they tell me to renew at £70-80 and each year I say no thanks and buy a sealed copy from Amazon or PC World. Current version is Norton 360 Deluxe and covers me for 5 computers and cost me under £20 for me its worth it.

Just make sure as soon as you install it you hit the "Do not auto renew" options, its there you just need to find it.

I use it mostly with Windows but have run it on a MacBook Pro and Ipad.
