I have great hopes for the combination, but I need to get some sourdough bread to have it on. I'll be out scavenging on Monday . . .

Has to be Branstons. Heinz now comes second for me.

This thread is genuinely fascinating. I was going to be blasé and just say Heinz, game over. I was brought up on them and have never picked up another brand in my life.

But having read what’s on here I will be giving Branston a go on my next mission to the supermarket.

However, I have been, and always will be, a bean “pimper” - minimum is a knob of butter and some Worcestershire sauce. Sometimes Tabasco. Often pepper. Occasionally mustard.

So given my tinkering I wonder whether the base bean sauce is of such importance?

I was brought up on Heinz, but then ended up with Tesco own brand most of the time because I'm a cheapskate (and I quite liked them). Heinz seem watery these days, not what I remember. However, had some Branston ones the other day because that's what the supermarket had and thought they were really good, so I'm switching to Branston from now on.

Same for me. Heinz since a kid. But in last few years I switch between Heinz and Branston. Find them to be on par.

Given recent shortage in shops we do have a couple of cans of Tesco. Will see how that goes down soon!

    Another vote for Branston here.

I had to buy them years ago when the shop I was in didn't have any Heinz in stock. I've never looked back since.

    That was rather amusing.

I too better try the alternative options on my next trip to the supermarket.

    Thought beans was beans.
Until we couldn’t get our usual Branston a few weeks ago.

Think we will give the others away, rather than using them now we have replenished our supply.

    Favourite meal at home.

4 large Sausages. Home made real chips. Branston beans. Fried onions. HP Sauce. Salt and vinegar.

Interesting dipping back into this thread to see a comfortable lead for Heinz. Can't believe that everyone voting for them has ever even tasted an alternative?

The watery sauce and relatively bland flavour compared to the main competition leaves them a distant 3rd place at best.......at least it does for me.

There's a vote!? I didn't notice that...maybe others didn't either as the narrative reads Branston is ahead!

ETA: Plenty of votes, so probably just me who is blind!

I bought Branson’s because of this thread.

    Heinz are better. Simples!

My favourite comfort food is still a 30-pack of Fish Fingers piled up high in layers of 3 like a mini jenga game, surrounded by a sea of baked beans ... Branston being the bean of choice currently :)

Garnish with sea salt and lashings of vinegar and Heinz organic ketchup ...

This covid war time availability of tinned goods ended up with a Heinz delivery. Certainly lower than the branston ones in quality and flavour.

A couple of years ago I used to buy the cheaper branston ones for bbq Pitt beans. After 6hrs in a smoker and many other ingredients it really didn’t matter what you started with.

For whoever mentioned English mustard in beans, you have changed my life, I love it!!

I’m not overly fussed about the brand as they all taste broadly similar with lashings of brown sauce and/or Tabasco on.

Just sat down to beans on toast using Branston beans for the first time. Chucked some pepper and Worcestershire sauce on as I always do and its a bean revelation. So much better than Heinz.
