    Which Zenith

Looks like my Breitling 50M beast will be going back, so which if these would be the better options?

Personally I find the skeleton hard to read. The pilot I really do like.

I would personally go for the bronze out of those two. Burrells are doing some great discounts off of Zenith watches at the moment,.

I really fancy a Defy 21. The rose gold version is half price and only £500 more than normal version on bracelet. Bit blingy but I’d be tempted by that, dam you Covid.

The regular version never seems to be discounted in sales

Don't get one on the bracelet unless you're a miracle worker with bracelets! I've had to put my recently acquired one away until the local jewellers open up to adjust the bracelet as I can't.

    Lovely though...

Lovely looking watches, just lost 10 mins in Burrell’s wondering where I can hide a £4K spend from La Jefa...

Of the 2 from the OP, skeleton for me. Time is a little harder to read but if you spend longer looking at it to tell the time, it’s a far prettier picture

Classic Cars is lovely but be aware it wears quite big on the wrist
Stopped me buying one but I have a fairly small wrist.
It’s like the IWC Portugieser/always wanted one then you try it on and it’s just too big.Lovely watch if you have the girth-fnar,fnar.

I could watch that a second hand spin round all day long . Mind me asking where you got yours from and if you managed a discount . I’d only seen it and tried on in selfridges and was met with a firm no on any possible discount lol

Out of the first two, I'd go for the pilot. I like the bezel a lot as well as the classic, clean lines.

I don’t think there is a bad choice with modern Zenith. Bit like the Volvo of watchmaking? And that both have a mixed past but they have now got their house in order.

    A couple that I love:

    1) 69 Chronomaster in gold

    https://www.chrono24.co.uk/zenith/el...GB&SETCURR=GBP

    2) A384 Revival

A very timely thread! What’s the second hand market like for Zenith? In particular I’m interested in the Zenith Defy Classic, skeleton on rubber.

Almost bought one in Florida last year but didn’t get to a decent figure with the guy. Sadly Burrell’s haven’t got any savings on the one I’m after.

I’m seriously thinking of dumping an omega to help get one. Good/bad idea?

Definitely! I love the same watch and would sell an Omega in a second to get one. Which Omega?

It would likely be my SMP (latest model). Nothing rare so I could always pick another one up later down the line. I like the Defy in that it’s a quality piece but so different from the usual suspects getting worn by everyone.

I would definitely choose a Zenith over an Omega. In fact I sold my 2254.50 and got this (pic from the Friday thread)

^ colours on that dial are gorgeous. Plus I guess it’s a bit more legible than skeleton dial.

Maybe I should wait post lockdown and try that one on in a dealer. I’m fairly sure it was a current model when I nearly bought that defy last year.

Exactly why I like it. I’ve tried it on before and found it quite legible.

I'm a big fan of the skeleton but I think I'd want to try it on and compare with non skeleton versions before making a decision

Along with the comments about legibility I’ve just taken a trawl through SC: loved the El Primero 42 that was posted in SC and then withdrawn, reasonable price as well - just a few hundred over pre-Corona trade prices for SMP. That would have been a no-brainier for me instead of the Defy.

    Definitely food for thought.

I've been looking at purchasing a pre-owned Chronomaster for some time, but seriously considering a Defy as an alternative as Chronomasters seemto be thin on the ground at the moment

I’d go for it. If I were to get one Zenith, it would be the skeleton defy.

I've had my Zenith Defy Classic Ceramic Skeleton for a couple of months now and I love it.
It has become my daily wearer because it is so very comfortable, light and resilient compared to other materials.

I also love that it is very different from the norm and mixes things up so much. I'm fortunate to have a number of very nice watches (AP RO, 5513, Speedy, BB GMT plus many others) and they have all been relegated to back up duties or when i want a vintage vibe.

I couldn't be happier with this watch.

A beauty, mine says hello. Every time I think about buying a new watch I look at mine and can’t help but think that if I had to go down to one watch, this would be it.

I got a second hand Chronomaster 38mm a few weeks ago. I’m very taken with it - the size is spot on for me and it feels like a really high quality piece of kit.

It is the blue dial version (I have a thing for blue), but now I find myself looking at the other dial colours to extend the collection.

    Madness.

Chrono was the last piece I needed, had my eye on the Sinn 356 which I've had a soft spot for for ages but the Zenith was the real grail in that space

That's my absolute favourite in Zeniths repertoire.
So much going on and such sensible size and proportion.

Is that the 69 reissue? Curious what the diameter & lug width is as I see mixed info...

Looking forward to seeing some pictures when you get it. I've got a 38mm tri colour el primero and can't see myself ever getting rid of it. A lovely piece and the perfect size for me

Yes, it is the 69 reissue version.

Getting the ruler out suggests a lug width of 19mm with a diameter of 38mm excluding crown and 41mm including crown.

I chose the Grey on a bracelet, and also got a great deal on the leather strap and deployant.. I actually prefer to wear it on the leather, a bit less bling.. Either way it’s a great watch.

    And on the wrist.

Lovely watches. Always liked the classic tricolore, are there any useful guides to navigate all the versions? 42 and 38mm, striking tenth, but mostly the small changes to the overlapping sundials.

The new defy classic is also a stunner, on rubber or bracelet.

I'm really confused by the varying subdial configurations.
if you look on C24, there are different configurations available, some with the central register partly obscured and some with the two upper registers partly obscured like Enoch's.

The one that has Zenith El Primero on the dial is the current model.

The one that has Zenit El Primero 36 000 Vph on the dial is the previous model..
