This seems to be viewed with positivity. Howsabout I take it one step further?

I have received some PMs from TZvGTGers offering to chip in with the licence cost. So I was thinking.....

I don't want it to turn into a wallet-waving contest. Anyone wanting to chip in can send me via PPF&F the contribution of their choice, and any excess over and above the yearly fee (if any) I will send on to the TZ fundraiser. I will announce the total sent (if any) but not identifying the individuals nor the amounts incoming to me.
The only problem with this is that you would have to believe me to be honest and above board. This shouldn't be hard; the penalty I paid to HMRC was due entirely to an oversight, and I have no intention of resigning.

    Whaddya think? (again)

I’m happy to chip in, Thursday isn’t ideal for me but I can usually join in later in the evening if I arrive home from tea- time socialising early and I’m not too tired.

    An excellent idea Alec.👍

    Happy to contribute.

Thanks guys for the responses. It will fly.

Thursdays are sort of traditional but not carved in stone.

I was thinking maybe next Thursday 26th Jan @ 8pm, and we can discuss all options.

First Thursday of each month is nice and easy to remember, but again is up for debate.

Sending invitations via forum PM is cumbersome and time-consuming; can anyone think of any reason why this wouldn't work - use the same meeting i.d. and password each time; attendees will have to save this info somehow (post-it-note is the usual!) and meeting announcements will be by posting on the vGTG thread. Anyone who forgets the details or newbies will be invited to PM me for a reminder via PM; otherwise, just rock up.
The fixed-day schedule will make it easier to fit into our hectic lifestyles.

Initially I will have to contact everyone via PM; can anyone help me out with a contacts list? If not I will just trawl back through the posts on the vGTG thread and hoover the user names.

I will start the licence purchase and report back.

OK guys, I have bought the licence. I forgot about the dreaded VAT; the total was £143.88.

Next step will be me sending out details of meeting i.d. and password; this will be via PM in the first instance.

If anyone is available next Thursday at 8pm we can have a play.

I am being sent a list of regulars which I will work through over the next few days, but if anyone is watching this with the intention of joining in for the first time, just send me a PM.

    What happens at these events?

Do attendees wax lyrical about their collections, debate the benefits of the double Impulse versus the grasshopper or share the names of dual ID members and closet dealers?

Yes, all that and more. Some employ alcohol as a tool to aid their defence should GCHQ be listening in.

I will send you the generic message that has gone to the "regulars".

Only by attending can one truly experience the mind-blowing diversity of the conversations.

    PM received.

As per instructions I will memorise the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, translate it to Klingon and deliver my interpretation of the key points through the medium of interpretative dance.

How many meetings before you will confirm there is a secret handshake and how many before I am bestowed with such knowledge?

Is it true that newbies are covered in lubricating grease and be jazzled with jewels reclaimed from with iconic British brands 1930 - 1965 ?

Thanks Uncle Alec! I'm going to send you over some funds for being such a brilliant guy. Please don't take this as a bribe as I am declaring this publicly.

All good banter is encouraged. We certainly chat about our watches and then broaden to topics that may include discussion about: can water vapour can pass freely into watch cases unlike water; can the changes in pressure while diving into a pool causing ingress; can I wear my 30m wrt watch in a humid environment while washing my hands with soap.
Many other topics can be discussed some get quite personal. Drinking is encouraged but not mandatory (Personally I'm off the booze until 6th February . ). Snacks are allowed and the occasional comfort break is permitted. No set rules of engagement. Janet (can be explained on the night) usually engages in lengthy discussions on the merits of vintage Omega.

It is not a closed group - anyone on TZ (there are hundreds!) is welcome to join in. Bring a beer and a sense of humour. See you later.

What Martin said - we have even had the odd black tie/fancy dress theme.

    Much hilarity.

Thanks Martyn and Will; much appreciated contributions.

I have sent the pro-forma intro message to everyone who has posted on the "Virtual GtG" thread in the last 12 months.

I will work through the attendees spreadsheet kindly supplied over the next few days.

But anyone not wishing to miss out, feel free to PM me with a request for joining details.

Look forward to seeing you Macca, it's been a while.

I have just posted a Big Re-launch advert in another thread. It is non-specific timewise, but to avoid confusion please note that we are due to convene this coming Thursday at 8pm when we can discuss protocols for future meets.

I have just finished PMing all contacts held on our erstwhile beloved leader's Excel file.

Apologies to those who thought that they had successfully escaped; just ignore my PM.

Alec I assume that the meeting ref and password are as you sent out to a few of us in your initial test PM?

They are, Neil. And of course 8pm this very night for our inaugural trial.

My hope is that we can keep the same password and hopefully decide on a regular once-per-month meeting time; this is to avoid my having to send out invitations each time.

We can cram in a few minutes discussion about this tonight hopefully, crammed in between the watch talk.

Alec thank you for hosting and everyone else who attended last night. A great evening of conversation that you couldn’t make up!

We even managed to shoehorn in some new watches and technical advice for movements to avoid. See you again last Thursday in Feb.

Yes, it was fun, conversation took some interesting twists as usual. A welcome distraction for me, currently recovering from minor foot surgery that’s curtailed my mobility...........it’s ‘healing’ nicely ( pun in there somewhere).

Look forward to the next one.

Thanks for the positive comments so far, chaps.

    An Anouncement!

Many thanks to all who chipped in towards the licence cost (£148approx.)
Your generosity has brought me to the point where I can say:

Any further contributions (absolutely not compulsory; many have said that they feel under no obligation, yet desirous of being part of the crowdfunding team) should be made direct to the TZ Fundraiser.

I won't be posting the individual amounts (see previous comment about wallet-waving discouragement) but if you do send to the FR I would appreciate a PM with the amount just so that at an appropriate stage I can give a total raised, as a sort of advert for the benificent nature of the vGTG regulars which in turn may entice a few more on board.

All TZUK members, contributors or not, are still cordially invited to join in the fun; PM me for details.

One last thing - we agreed to schedule future meetings for the last Thursday of each month, starting at 8pm.

    You haven't been paying attention!
The joining details remain the same, so the PM I sent on 21st January contains the necessary link and password, which will be used for all future GTGs. May I suggest a stick-it note?

This is so that I don't have to keep sending out invites, in batches of 5, which is a bit of a pain
