Dear Dr Holsterman,
I am getting in touch because we expect the UK government to ask us to give you temporary registration with a licence to practise, as part of the response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Find out more
We are writing to around 15,000 doctors who left the register or gave up their licence to practise in the last three years. Our records show that you’re one of these doctors.
We know you may have questions about this process, and what this means for you. We’ve put together some information to help you consider your options.

Can I opt out?
Yes. It’s your choice. You may want to opt out for health or personal reasons. You can opt out at any time by replying to this message or by:
Emailing us at
response@gmc-uk.org
Calling us on 0161 923 6602.
What happens next?
If the government asks us to register you and you haven’t opted out, your licence to practise will automatically be restored for the duration of the emergency.
This means that you could work as a doctor in the health service, if you were asked and were willing to do so. You won’t need to contact us, or pay a fee. We’ll email you to let you know you’ve been registered. You cannot practise until you receive this confirmation from us.
We’ll also give your name and contact details to the health service in the country of your registered address. And we’ll let them know whether you’re on the GP or specialist register. This will help them to respond to the developing situation. If they’d like you to return to work, they’ll get in touch with you to discuss next steps.
You can still opt out or change your mind, at any time during this period.
If you’d like to find out more about why you’ve received this email see the temporary registration section of our website or call us on 0161 923 6602.
Best wishes
Una Lane
