Track The Collapsing Value Of Your Watch

Who can achieve the greatest percentage loss between now and whenever?

Enter your watch NOW and LOSE!

Here's my entry. If an Omega which never succeeded as well as was hoped in the first place can't plummet, what can?

If this one looses a few grand I would probably be less concerned about wearing it.

My most expensive watch is this 64 Ed White, if it loses a few quid so be it but I think it will do better than the 2020 version.... hopefully!

First time Iíve looked at the Chrono24 collection valuation page. Ridiculous prices...suggests my modest collection is worth about 45% more than I know I could get for it.

Nominate Tintin as it's my watch thats worth the most, although I don't think that it will be in the same league as many.

I bought it for less than retail back when they were unloved, and have no intention to sell.

I don't have one but reckon the Omega Snoopy watch will take a bath of epic proportions.

Those went over £20k at one point, for a £4.6k watch.

Chrono24 is prices in dollars and then converts, Iím 15% up, as a result of the £ tanking against the $

My Tudor Black Bay 558 is apparently 51% up on purchase price yet I couldnít shift it for under RRP on here!!

Watchfinder 20 percent less on offer than 4 months ago

In demand sports model, offer me 20 percent less today, from November 2019.

Yes they might be making lower offers to buy stock as people need to raise money, but belive you me it's a warning on prices on all watches.

Hoping this thread doesnít get overrun by noTaglove and the like

For SC prices you need to apply a correction factor to Chrono 24

    I just divide by 2!!

The resale value of anything is dependant upon what someone is prepared to pay for it, hence C24, EBay, etc are for guidance only.

However just for fun, my last watch purchase was a mint, full set, one original owner (a friend) 16700, I paid £6250. I would estimate its value to be around £9000.

Whoever does not know how to hit the nail on the head should be asked not to hit it at all.

As long as we're comparing like with like, then the percentage change will be vaguely accurate.

    Okay
    Rolex 5513-preowned
Chrono 24 gives current market value at £11,373
    I paid £15,500
That should give me a good head start on most.

In fairness Hood, your example is particularly lovely! I also think the WG surround versions are included with this estimate which skews it somewhat.

Arenít C24ís valuations all about getting you to put your watch up for sale in their website, so the prices are inflated a bit to encourage you to list, but then take an offer thatís closer to the right price if a buyer pops up?

    Mad app that is.
It values my Snowflake at between £9k and £19k
I know value of these is subject to a lot, but that is a huge difference, and all of that range at an unrealistic end of the scale.

  29. #29
This thread isn't complete without a Daytona .

But let's ignore the ceramic, we'll take my white dial 116520. A comparable watch on WatchFinder, £17950. I picked mine up 4 years ago(?) for under £7k.....

Edit to add - chrono24 place the mid range at £16k. Am sure as mentioned there some dollar effect in that.

Im not sure whether to trust these watch value apps. Mines is suggesting an increase in value of double the profit compared to a month ago.

    TRUST.

Going by some of the figures being quoted, I would say probably Not.

Could be, but as you are only tracking the price it doesnít really matter - it will still show a trend up or down.
It's just a matter of time...

For what I paid for my Rolex Submariner 116610LN, I know Iím still well in profit. However I do not intend to sell it, it is a keeper and I love it. It ainít for flipping, so I really donít care if the price goes down!

Only relevant and point of sale, I hopefully wonít be selling any of mine anytime soon, but with a two grand 14060, three and a half grand 16710 and an absolute original 1970 5513 at six grand I think I will be fine.

I don't currently own one, but one I'm still bitter about selling before the prices went mental. I sold mine, an absolutely mint AP15300, for about £8.5k and always regretted it. Hoping to buy one back at a more reasonabow price.

As a flipper I tend to take my losses in a short time frame. I lost money on a Kermit, broke even on a steel Daytona... My 1016 was bought five years ago so it has a long way to fall.

So I offer this: VC Overseas 42042, cost me £5100 to buy it & fix the bracelet last year. Even the eternal optimists at C24 think Iím onto a loser. WF offered me less than £3k for it a couple of months back.

Yeah I was hoping this would just be a light hearted thread for those of us who aren't very bothered by the value of our watches, just some fun in difficult times.

Hardly confusing. Imagine they find 'enjoyment' because speculators have priced a watch they'd like to buy out of range or unobtainable and happy to see that reversed.

Over the last few years watch collectors have definitely fallen into one of two categories...(1) those that buy a watch primarily for enjoyment, want to own it and will probably accept they flip for the same value or less and (2) those that see owning the watch as a form of investment in an asset.

Those are not mutually exclusive...some will use (2) to justify buying the watch they might otherwise not have bought for enjoyment. These people donít see that as spending money.

10-15 years ago, the hobby was mainly (1). Now, Iíd say there are more speculators than those buying watches purely as a purchase rather than investment.

Those that fall into the first category probably donít care about any price correction other than the bonus of potentially being able to buy some of the harder to obtain watches they want. Those that are in the speculator category will be upset.

  46. #46
    wow i wish i hadn't done that

i knew i'd spent a lot on watches but when it gives a valuation, ouch

investment wise mine are all panerai so to loose any more in inconsequential, it is interesting the ones that have done the most are the ones i bought and never go round to wearing, i clearly just have bad taste

Itís making it a real problem to find the size 7 used shoes and XXXL Barbour Skyfall jackets. I think we need a separate Rolex Sales subforum.
