I always struggled when visiting Brazil from Colombia and never progressed much further than Obrigado. I'd love to see some beekeeping photos.

Blimey, this is a quite a rabbit-hole. Delving into early movies, really enjoyed the George Méliès pieces such as Le Tunnel sous la Manche ou le Cauchemar anglo-français and, of course, Le Voyage dans la Lune.

PS Thanks for starting this thread M., nice idea to keep us talking about something else.
When I was a kid, they used to put on a Welsh language programme around lunchtime.

I used to love watching it for some reason, even though I had no idea what was going on!

Anyone else remember it? Mid 60s to early 70s I guess.

Meanwhile, I've bought a nice old Conshelf 14 regulator set. I've cleaned up the 2nd stage (inside and out) and it all seems to be working well (although obviously I can't test it in water anywhere!), but I've bought a second, tattier 1st stage to try out servicing it, before looking at the good one.

the benefit of something like Lanksy is that a) the system has a number of grits (the Deluxe has 5 different types) and b) perhaps most important it enables enables you to select the blade edge angle (and stick to it). So for general purpose knives you use 20 degrees.

Next step will be adding a wet stone and strop to the process.

That has inspired us to get creative in the kitchen.

I think that the program may have been Heddiw, broadcast on BBC One around lunchtime.

We were planning to be at Bletchley Park on Friday 8 May for the VE Day 75 celebrations, but with the public event cancelled we will instead join in online for a digital 'Nation’s Toast' at 3pm, followed by a special recording of a VE Day speech by Sir Winston Churchill.

The Bunting for Bletchley appeal has recently been launched with the intention that the site can be decorated with red, white and blue bunting to create a celebration atmosphere for when they are able to reopen. The idea is to use any available red, white and blue materials to make bunting, such as old items of clothing and offcuts in the spirt of 'Make Do and Mend'. We'll knock a few metres up.

This YT channel will keep you busy for a while: 80+ episodes of restoring a jukebox. On top of that, 70+ videos (and counting) of restoring a 1966 Ford Thunderbird.

I make and restore model boats and yachts as a hobby so to be honest I'm having a great time, currently working on a model of a 1930s Police launch and after that I have a mid 1800s model to restore of a gaff rigged pond yacht, which will take a few months, which may well be handy in these times.

I went onto an online model supplies shop and they apparently can't cope with demand at the moment so I think a lot of oldies like me are revisiting the model making of their youth.... :-) Only trouble is we can't take them to the lakes !

Nice hobby Mike, looks like loads of fun, (and hard work!). You need a pond in your back garden though.

Last summer there was a guy at our local lake who'd built a R/C rowing boat with a Minion at the oars. It worked too, I was impressed.
    Best Regards - Peter

I'd hate to be with you when you're on your own.

I'm lucky in that I haven't, though a friend of mine had to get a team of volunteer divers in to rescue one of his that went down in a flooded Gravel Pit, and that was deep ! ... they were rewarded with some very decent malt scotch !

Yes, that's a redundant piece of track-work that I'm going to rebuild but I tend to build my own locos and running stock for the line too, known as the East Appledore Light Railway, which is rather fun too..

Our oldest daughter has decided to do this 30 Day Instagram Challenge, it is a little bit like what magirus is doing here but without leaving the curtilage. It is encouraging her to think about images telling a story and to be creative with the camera. Some of the tasks will need a bit of thought to achieve under current constraints.

P.S. I highly recommend the inspiring thread mentioned in the first sentence.

I'm getting to grips with driving the cloud-based eLearning authoring tool Gomo to create training packages that can be remotely accessed by colleagues working from home across the globe. It's pretty slick and there's a 21-day free trial.

Given the content of this thread so far, I'm not sure this advice is about to reach its ideal audience, but never mind...

Firstly, on your own, read aloud to yourself. It's great fun and makes the time fly. Jane Austen is good for this, because you get to sound very witty and articulate. Also the chapters are quite short.

Secondly, reading plays aloud in a group. Typically there are more roles than readers, so divvying up and then swapping around is necessary. But it's always possible. (Me and a friend once did the entirely of Hamlet, but it needed a lot of planning.)

Online you can find the scripts to popular comedies like Friends. I imagining a big family doing that, feeling rather jealous not to be a part of it....

I saw a goldfinch in the back garden today. Maybe not unusual for some members who are naturists, hang on, naturalists, but I’d never seen one before.

If I hadn’t decided to just go and have a look round the garden I wouldn’t have spotted it and then looked it up in my Collins Bird Guide. It’s quite a spectacular looking bird.

Congratulations, they are lovely, brightly coloured birds. They stand out from the crowd of the many brown birds we have here.

Another way to pass the time of isolation could be to spend a bit of time watching the garden and seeing how many species of bird visit it. If anything it is very relaxing, although I can see that could also be boring to some.

    Beautiful aren't they?

We get Bullfinches (always in pairs) and Greenfinches too.

We also get those bloody green parakeets (always in a gang) with that awful squawking they make. It still amazes me how they have flourished in the wild here over the years.

In between work and school work my son and I have built this over the last two weeks:

It is the first time it has been built in two years and we have only had to substitute three pieces and we are still missing another but not bad going. Next up is Kylo Ren's tie fighter.

For a rather mesmerising diversion, spend a moment or three with Theo Jansen's fantabulous wind driven Strandbeests.

Then if you feel inspired, visit his webshop and order a herd of mini Strandbeests to build for yourself.

I took my old inkjet out of the loft and tried to set it up (Epson R300, with 6 shades of pigment grey). It was having none of it. I even took out the print head to clean it. All to no avail. So, I today I received a new inkjet printer I ordered over the weekend, a Canon ip8750. Also some inks from Octoinkjet. I'm waiting on a monitor calibration tool, and an IT8.7/2 calibration target for my scanner (and printer). I'm hoping to get them all singing from the same hymn sheet for the first time ever.

(By the way, the printer is pretty good, even unprofiled.)

    Best wishes,
    Bob

Have you considered blocking the IP address of the printer on your router for internet access? I once had a HP printer that self-installed a firmware update which subsequently barred the use of non-HP printer cartridges. I've not much experience of Canon, I'll admit...

Cheers. Did it yesterday, right after I assigned it a static IP on the LAN. Just checked the logs, and it hasn't tried to call home yet.

I'm continuing my Duolingo streak learning Welsh, but the phrases are continuing to be somewhat random at times. My current favourite has been, "Do you like the tiger in the office?"

I'm impressed with the modelling skills on display! I used to build Airfix kits as a kid, but I don't think I have the patience or fine motor skills these days.

    That is rather pleasing.

My wife and I are practising a combination of Kung - fu and boxing.

I'm quite happy at home whereas she is climbing the walls, hence the fight practise.

At least I think it's practise.
    Cheers,
    Neil.

    Learn Morse Code

This is an absolutely brilliant website for anybody who wants to learn or brush up on Morse Code. It is designed to be used on a mobile device in conjunction with Gboard - the Google Keyboard, which has an optional Morse Code function. It uses clever graphical mnemonics to aid the recollection of each letter, and after a while it becomes second nature.

Learn more about developer Tanya Finlayson and how Morse is being used to give a voice to those without one, here:
