    Virtual Manchester GTG

I half-jokingly suggested this is in the Spring McrGTG thread, but who would be up for a virtual Manchester GTG? Perhaps this Friday evening? (It has suddenly become more appealing as I'm 'self-isolating'...)

Let's not let this pandemic interfere with our drunken, inane watch chat! How about 19:30 GMT on Friday 20th March?

All I'll need is a 'yes' here and a PM with your email address. I'll then either host the virtual GTG via Zoom, or skype (unless anyone has a better teleconferencing system?).

[Obviously this is open to non-Greater Manchester residents].

I'd like to video conference lots of randoms off the internet and talk about watches, sign me up:

All you need is a computer and a webcam. Or an iPad / tablet. You might have to install the relevant software (Skype or similar) but that’s straightforward.

Not for me but Zoom will be the best software you can have for this. Probably free right now too.

Might have to give this one a miss, but if we get locked down I might join a future one.

A cracker of an idea. If I wasn't (hopefully) travelling back from Lanzarote that night, I'd treat you all to my unusual taste in watches.

    Hope it all goes well.

I have too much on this Friday (publication deadline) but applaud the concept and would love to join in a future one, subject to still being alive.

It might be the smallest McrGTG in history! I’ll send a few PMs tonight. All are welcome!

Can I form the Southern delegation? Probably the only chance that I'll get to attend an McrGTG.

Just have to figure out a way of keeping the wife and son entertained for the duration, can't have them butting in on such an important conversation.

Would love to join in but it looks like I might be rescuing my daughter from "that London" tonight. Hope to make the next one though.

Yeah it was a good laugh, albeit with the usual connection problems at the start. It was hard to show watches via a webcam though! It certainly lightened my spirits, so thanks chaps.

I’ll arrange another one for a few weeks time.

I had a look and, in theory, it's possible to attach two cameras to Zoom (though perhaps only broadcast from one at a time). I intend to do some testing later.
    In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.

That was my intention. Sadly my old (Microsoft) plug-in webcam wasn’t compatible with windows 10. The swines!

There's nothing for it; you'll need to invest in an extremely high spec document camera.

Great to meet you all last night and chat, a little about watches too.

One way around the watch / camera problem could be to take photos of the watches beforehand and then share your screen when you want to show the watch.

My wife is now very worried and can't understand that I was speaking to strange men online, particularly when two of them were in their beds. Difficult to explain that really. At least I was in my bunker

    Until next time.....

    1 question and 1 observation.

    1. How many people did you get on the call - I imagine it starts to get a bit unwieldy above a certain number?
    2. I tried to use my external webcam as a document camera on Tuesday and there's a problem - the text is flipped back to front. Less of an issue with watches I suppose than if you need to read text but nevertheless a problem (though perhaps there's a setting in Device Manager or similar to reverse it).

Edit: Forget my second point - there is a mirror toggle setting in the Zoom client. Don't know whether it exists if you're using it via a browser though.

There was 5 or 6 of us on the call. I forget as I was drinking wine. Then whisky.

Mainly we just listened to Burnsey ramble on anyway!

I really enjoyed it, as I did tonight’s other virtual TZ GTG.
