    Old underrated TAG Heuer

I always liked this particular era of Aquaracer chronograph. It was 41mm... perfect size. Even the quartz versions are quite cool. For around 1K you can't go wrong with the automatic.

They made a 45mm day-date version later which I also owned. But I like this smaller version more.

How old is that? Looks very cherished.

The photos were taken when it was brand new. :)

This is from around 2005-2006 (I think).

Aquagraph was pretty impressive variation of this model series too.

I had the black and blue version, I still regret selling the black..

Nice thread. Some Tag's have aged well and some have not! I remember the "Jason Bourne" Tag, not sure that aged so well.

    The aquagraph is not bad!

This was HOT back in 1991.

It's actually not too bad now, either but it has definitely "aged". The biggest turn-off of these old models is the size. I guess this is something like 36mm.

Those look good, a world away from the 90s TAGs, that was a design language that has aged badly. Thank God TAG has knocked that on the head although weirdly Ebel persist with it.

Don't like many Tags, and don't like many chrono's either, but something looks very nice about that one.
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.

Here's the TAG Heuer ad from circa 2005.

I bought that model earlier this month - but in black, not blue.

I’m generally ambivalent about modern TAG Heuer - some good, some horrid - but for a while I’ve had a hankering to own an older watch, the sort of thing I saw before I became interested in watches myself.

There’s undoubtedly a nostalgic aspect. The evolution of the 2000 Series Divers is quite interesting.

I gravitate towards Dive watches in general, and I’d wanted something for a while that had both Chronograph & timing Bezel functionality - I find myself timing things a lot during the day, so the ability to time two things at once appealed. A true weekend beater tool watch, packed with utility.

I looked at candidates from Sinn & Damasko, but plumped for this. 41mm but wearing a little smaller due to the steel bezel, 300m water resistance, plenty of micro-adjustment in the clasp & dive extension.

A good deal pre-owned, with recent TAG Heuer service, 2-year warranty, box/papers & replacement bezel & clasp. It’s like new. Hard to argue with the price for a steel tool watch on bracelet with rock-solid Valjoux movement.

Excellent catch Stinger. That looks to be in pristine condition. I gave mine to my brother who wears it religiously.

I wrote a blog entry of my Aquaracer a few years ago. Cheers!

Those are kinda cool. And very characteristic designs. Unmistakable TAG Heuer... every watch guy recognizes them from far away.

Same can't be said about many other watch brands.

    Thanks, JPE.

As part of the fun of purchasing is the research beforehand, I actually read your above blog, and came back to it a couple of times whilst deliberating over the purchase - it’s a great, informative read, with pics that really sell the watch. Probably influenced me more than a little! Good work.

A bloke I’ve worked with since 2008 has worn your model every day and it’s never aged a bit.

    @stinger: Thanks.

Isn't it kinda cliched that every "wannabe serious watch guy" always talks down TAG Heuer. It's always the same crap.... "oh how the original Heuer was so cool but then they sold out blah blah blah". :D

I think TAG has made plenty of very nice watches recently. Not a big fan of the new Aquaracers but some new Link models are stunning. Not to mention the Carrera.

This, for example, is a hard model to hate. What there's not to like?

I’ve had this since the early 90’s. My Dad wears it these days, I’ve told him he can look after it for me. It feels ever so small now if I try it on. I don’t think he wears it much, says he doesn’t wear a watch now he’s retired. I do remember they were the pin up watch in those days and featured heavily in the car magazines my brother read.

The '90s was certainly an era of "blobby" design...

Oh man that Ford Scorpio was TERRIBLE design. What were they thinking?

Granada was a great looking car back in the day and even the initial Scorpio was "ok". That was just... well... embarrassing. It was actually even worse from the front (those "froggy eyes... uhh!)

Yep. Horrifying from every angle. Which means it and its design-kin will no doubt be considered cool by a subset of of "yoot" not born when these mechanical atrocities first stalked the Earth...

Not my photo, but I bought one of these back in the day in Switzerland and it is my first "real" watch being a COSC Auto.
