Count me in Alec
I think the one prior to the last was the best venue.
There is muttering amongst the ranks that we should be thinking of arranging our traditional Spring Get-together.
First - what support is there for this?
Second - the last venue was excellent (if a tad pricey ale-wise) - any views/opinions?
Third - I have heard that our very own MCGTG Boris Johnson has been overspending on laptops recently; is he still able to perform his usual heroics re. liaising with the venue and cajoling certain members?

I would be up for it!
When you look long into an abyss, the abyss looks long into you.........
Always up for a beer & a natter with you chaps.
Count me in!

Work permitting I’d love to get to another one
Just so that this newbie understands this correctly, is this a load of watch geeks in a weatherspoons ?
Yep, up for this Alec
OK guys, this is how it works.
For a while, I pretend that I am organising it; then Kirk takes over, being a much more finger-on-the-pulse sort of guy with regards Manchester city centre venues. He gamely offers to liaise with various licenced premises in the target area. All are happy with this as they are all too aware that if left to me the event would take place in the run-down tap room of a seedy Joseph Holt pub with compulsory Rough Mild drinking and cloth cap wearing.
The venue is not discussed openly in a public forum such as this one for security reasons; essential details are communicated via PM.
Venues are within easy reach of Manchester city centre transport hubs so that Bootneck can have his two halves of shandy without worrying about the breathalyser.
All are welcome; sometimes non-TZ friends attend and seem to enjoy themselves.
On the assumption that Kirk will take over but if he doesn't I will carry on with the arrangements-
WE'RE ON!!
We can discuss suitable dates on this thread, and also opinions from previous attenders on preferred venues. I shall start off by expressing my preference for the last venue ( I shall start saving up! - £4+ a pint!) and giving Saturdays March 21st and 28th are no-go for me.
Over to you guys.
Sigh. I’m in. Obviously. And I’ll sort it out...just give me a couple of days to decompress from hosting a training course all week (aka drinking heavily).
I’ll probably have a laptop for sale

I’m run down, seedy and wear a cloth cap I hope that this will help to sate your needs Alec.
If it miraculously falls during a weekend that I’m travelling over to the UK, on my way to a none Corona virus infested holiday spot, then I’ll pop in for a few pints :)
It's just a matter of time...
sounds interesting
Any time for me is ok so long as it is before the 4th of May.
A bump to cheer up weekend browsing for the geographically appropriate.
I’ll join if I can. Trying not to buy any more watches but great excuse for beer and banter with (some) watch content :-)
Ant
Seems interesting.
Anybody going from bolton?
The legend that is Kevkojak usually attends when his busy schedule allows; he is from Bolton. I hope he does attend, as he usually buys me a pint.
OK chaps, let me know the dates I should avoid. As always it won’t be possible to keep everyone happy, but I’ll do my best!
I might have another potential venue in mind too....
As above, Saturdays 21st & 28th March are out for me, otherwise good.
New venue eh? I am agog.....
Saturday April 11th is a non starter for me.
If you don't mind a newbee from Brum tagging a long, Id hate to miss a chance to talk watches all night whilst drinking beer.
You will be most welcome; and whatever the venue it will be within easy walking distance from the Manchester transport hub consortium.
I met a few watch guys off another forum last year in Manchester, ended up in that flight club it was a great night TBF
I’ve enjoyed both the last two venues. Interested to see the next one if it does change

Sorry to be a kill-joy, but in the current climate perhaps it’s prudent if I pick this up again in a couple of weeks. Let’s then reassess.
I’m having meetings and conferences cancelled across the board. It wasn’t like this back in the good old Black Death days!!
Although I’m pretty sure our McrGTG chat would bore the coronavirus to death.
Edit: I won’t be offended if other GTG fans want to call me a big Southern Manchester softie and organise it anyway. I can PM contact details and my idea for the new potential venue. Or just wait a couple of weeks and I’ll do it!

Happy to go either way Kirk, err regarding the meet up
Speaking in my capacity as vulnerable older person I think it is right and proper to reconsider.
Although it is the social highlight of my year, it does beg the question of just how essential it is, bearing in mind the use of public transport.
It is one of many instances of my considering the prudence of lowering my exposure potential vs. overreaction.
I am not too concerned about the effects personally, but should my wife be infected she is unlikely to survive, so I do have a pressing duty of care not to become a carrier.
Agreed Alec. If need be we could have a virtual GTG via Skype or similar!
In fact, that might be a laugh - get a few beers in, show some watches on camera, no concerns about security or keeping the venue secret....
I’ve got teleconference software I could use, happy to host it!
Well my half-joking idea is going ahead tonight - virtual McrGTG at 19:30 GMT.
