A rare vintage Girard Perregaux HF chronometer Gyrodate

Just thought I'd post this up as I doubt many people have seen one before

I really like high quality vintage watches and with the famous High Frequency (36000) cal 42.1 chronometer movement inside and the unusual date mechanism I think this GP qualifies.

Nice and slim for an auto.

Can't really date GP's but from a bit of research I would think mid '60's, unless anybody knows better?

    Cheers,
    Neil.

Fantastic Neil , I am a fan of GP and sadly missed out on one of these, that was on Ebay last year !

Its a very old tech full calendar, Im not sure on the movement but probably a GP adapted Adolf Schild or Peseux check out the Gp chronicles collector blog if you have not already some great Gp watches .

You can contact GP and they will give you info on the watch or you can get a extract ( I think ) but this has a cost attached ( same as Omega )

Lovely looking watch. Not only have I never seen one before, I've never seen a watch that displays the day and date in that way, pointer date yes, but not pointer day. Strange that it has the date on the bezel and a date window too, belt and braces! Have you had it long? Where did you find it?

I realise now there's nothing pointing at the day, so I guess the day wheel rotates?

If I remember correctly you just set this up once, it then acts as a perpetual calendar and every thing moves around the date bezel ! It obviously doesnt recognize leap years or 30 day months .

very clever design . If you like this one, I have seen a Black dial that is really STUNNING !!!

You actually set the date to 1 at the beginning of the month opposite the day it falls on, from then to the end of the month you can read off the day and date and read ahead to the end of the month like a calendar i.e the 9th falls on Thursday etc.

Obviously you can just use the date window but it's not as much fun!

In answer to your query, I've had it a while from a friend of mine who is a part time dealer and sometimes unearths unusual stuff.

Very nice watch Neil I googled it after your post never heard of one before and it seems there are quite a few in the hands of collectors.

That looks amazing! Lovely style and there is something about older watches with that kind of complication that I really like.

Lovely. Off to see how much they are... knowing that it’ll be too much!

    Do you wear it much?

To be honest I don't wear anything very much, I have a LOT of watches here but generally just wear around half a dozen with others for occasional use.
    Cheers,
    Neil.

It's a drag John but hopefully this stuff will blow over and I can get out a bit later.

Glad you and the family had a good time.

    All the best,
    Neil.
