Nice trading again Ryan! Expecting a WTB from you soon.

Elon's comment on fiat is interesting earlier today. Who is the fool?

Hope it works out for you, from the nice watches you have and your job 23% of your SIPP must be a very large sum of money. fingers crossed for the next hour

Currently I'm being offered 261p by HL which would crystallise a loss so I'll let it ride a bit

272p now on HL. I'll set limit at 300p. Looking at the daily volatility it may well get matched. I don't feel BTC is dropping any time soon and Zcash is up 12% and that's the other ARgo holding. The issue is just how much froth is in the Argo stock price vs the crypto value. That I don't know

Y'know there are other options than hodl and sell all Ryan, like selling a portion at a small profit whilst reducing your downside risk exposure!

We've had enough of experts thank you :)

P.S. Yes this is a thought as I could staircase my selling to make a profit on small parts. Yesterday I bought at between 265p and 273p so I could make profit on the 265p proportion. Sadly most was bought at the higher levels.

  8. #5508
I'm not an expert (mostly passive trackers/beta with a tiny holding of this thread's 'gambles') but I think they might say (or have said) too much focus on what you originally paid is a mistake, they are sunk costs. I do not/should not care if I made a loss on some portions (or even all) of the purchase if I get out with a small profit overall on average, or minimise a much greater loss.

    Easier said than done.

265 now, 300 looks hopeful. Have you got a stop loss in place?

Well damn. As it stands I could cash out and crystalise a loss of around £10k. Or I could go full fat 'diamond hands' and stick it out until later. I won't leave it in play over the weekend so today by EOD I am cashing out

Squeaky bum time to say the least, would your £10k loss be soaked by your previous days profits?

Normally the pattern I have seen from high performing stock is you’ll have a mad couple of days/weeks and at some point it inevitably settles back to a level that is more stable, where that is with ARB who knows!

Bitcoin climbing, you might just get out of this without a loss

  13. #5513
With the sums you are dealing with I would be selling at 285/290, seems to be climbing but it may not reach 300

Willing to risk an infinite loss for a tiny profit? Recipe for disaster.

As ernestrome has said: using the purchase price as an input for deciding when to sell is one of the biggest mistakes you could ever make (with the exception of tax considerations, which I understand will not be a consideration inside the SIPP?).

Got out of it with a £3.3k profit. That'll do and I'll sleep better. May go back in but maybe with 5% of the SIPP and not 23%!

Edit I'm already back in. Bought back in for less than I sold. Much lower stakes, this equates to around 4% of the SIPP this time!

Yeah I have to have all my assets pretty much in a SIPP for reasons I won't go into on here so if it all goes well I'll rack up a load of Payday loans on my 57th Birthday, go hard and then pay it all back on my 58th. I'm unlikely to live into my 80s so until then, wheeeee!

My reasons for leaving all money in the SIPP and paying professionals to manage it are mainly I'm not a professional and can't be arsed

I will leave a donation, I did my biggest purchase into INO so once I see what happens with that I will stick a % of the gains into the fundraiser

Anyone bought yesterday? After the market was so happy, the stock stuck in the low $12s - only to pop to $12.87 by now.

Nope, still in THCA and waiting for that first. Trying to keep my money inside an ISA so I don't pay tax and Vanguard is very limited in this respect.

I have THCA in IG but don't want to make a habit of buying outside of an ISA. Really need to research a SS ISA provider which allows me to trade actual shares.

I bought 25 for fun, up 3.74% today. Not going to be retiring on my £8.72 profit :)

edit: but enjoying it nonetheless, thanks Raffe.

I took up Raffe's kind offer on the referral to IB to help the fundraiser (I'll donate any bonus my side too). However I am getting a strange message of "Currently we do not accept applications of this type from your jurisdiction." and it is not letting me progress (after validating email and logging in). Has anybody from UK signed up successfully with Interactive Broker recently?

I'm selecting Individual and "Yes" to the Beneficiary question. I've tried the other combinations and they all don't work either.

Seeing a lot of news in the press this morning about Avacta (ticker: AVCT) and that their covid test is at the final stages of development and could be a part of the operation moonshot Bojo mentioned many moons back. Monday morning could be the last opportunity to buy this stock* before it's confirmed.

I can send you the empty bottles one by one, if that helps?

Honestly, I had a similar situation before Christmas. I had a huge upside day and then pi**ed away all of the profit over the next 10 to 15 trading days. It was so frustrating, I decided to close most positions and took a few days away from the market. That helped.

I think the mania will start as soon as they change tickers, which usually happens within days of the respective EGMs approving the merger. Both scheduled to happen during Q1/2021.

Sitting and waiting, and the shares trading up and down with general market sentiment, order flow and rumours. It's all part of the game.
CLA announced today the date of the EGM to approve the merger - stock pops by 5.5%.
