If you look on the Rolex website, there’s an interactive map of ADs.

What's your beef with the Watches of Switzerland Group as Aurum are now known?

    Wanted: non-Arum Group Rolex dealer

Bored with the arrogance of the dealer and want to take business elsewhere. I’m not going to buy something I don’t want to qualify to go on a list to possibly buy what I do want.

I discounted Harrods and Selfridges as I’m assuming they won’t run lists and I don’t own any oil wells.

Didn’t think about Wempe, do they sell what they have or do I need to offer up my first born and a kidney to qualify to join a list ?

I’m on lists ( allegedly) for several watches but one I want has come in and they won’t hold it or take phone payment or deposit to hold.

So what’s the problem ? Go collect it.

Chop chop then, get in and collect it.
I don’t get the problem here?

Most will want qualifying purchases before selling you one of the most in demand pieces.
Essentially you need to be a known customer, who is local and a regular spender. The days of chronological waiting lists are over. It’s about spending power/history. (All this is assuming you want one of the steel sports hard to get pieces)

Go in and buy it , it’s really that simple .

If you don’t buy it , someone else will.

Can’t see why you’re making an issue over nothing.

    Or fantasist.

Sounds like trying to create an issue where there isn’t one.

I’m a bit confused (which is unfortunately not that unusual for me). Are you actually saying that you’ve received the almost mythical ‘call’? Or, even more amazingly, has one of these unicorn pieces been spotted in a WoS group window?

If the former, I just don’t get the issue.

If the latter, I just don’t get the issue.

    Totally (and easily) confused.

It’s not a unicorn piece it’s a model I want and have been looking for. I have a ‘relationship’ with the dealer but it’s never resulted in me being offered unicorns.

I’ve reached the point of thinking I will buy elsewhere, because the ‘relationship’ you have to develop will be relative and I’m not spending £100k a year for the luxury of having the warranty card in my name hence asking for a suitable London dealer.

I’m working away not back until Monday hence can’t walk over and buy it.

    No, I’m not a millennial.

Will do on Monday when I will know if I got it. It’s not a desperately rare piece but has sentimental value. Will explain once I have it !

Have you spoken to them over the phone and simply asked to bank transfer the money to them? I paid by bank transfer to one of the group stores to secure a watch as I was away for several weeks. Not had an issue at other stores where I am an existing customer.

Yes, I did. They’re not interested.

I hear from my colleagues in the area of the shop that it’s very quiet. Work from home Friday should be interesting.

I can understand why you might want to go to a non Aurum dealer if you have been spending money with an AD and not getting anywhere with the pieces you want, but they all seem to be much of a muchness. Laings were the most pushy / open with me about needing to buy other things from them to be considered. An independent got me an LVC with no purchase history but have now said I would need to buy a non-popular piece to get another sports model. An Aurum group dealer got me a BLRO with no purchase history and seem to be quite open at getting me another sports model without buying anything I don't want.

What is confusing? I asked for a recommendation for Rolex dealer that isn’t Aurum Group.

Why post the question in the first place? Much easier and quicker to check here

In fairness that's a list of authorised dealers and the OP was asking for recommendations

Blimey this is an interesting forum. Did I mention that my other hobby is strangling kittens ?

    Not a millennial/ fantasist - I’m simply asking for a recommendation.

I work away a lot. I’m not in the UK until weekend.

Can I close this thread ?

My fault, I should have been specific that I was asking a respected group of watch enthusiasts for a recommendation of where I should take my business.

A real pity. If you had asked in another part of the forum I would have had a very good suggestion.

Would agree here, most ADs have used or best put, abused the current bubble that has enveloped Rolex steel alongside Patek and Audemars pieces to pretty much screw every possible Dollar, pound etc out of it to fill the coffers. This manipulation of the market has left a sour taste in many buyers, being to put it bluntly, forced to buy watches they have no interest in to secure the watch they were after and with this action many ADs, Aurum being just one have lost the respect of buyers. I wish more buyers has walked away from this treatment and not allowed this to have become such a widespread occurence. Laings as mentioned in the above is a truly horrible experience, it really does feel like a group of vultures hovering over your debit card ready to strip it clean. No matter how you gloss it up with pretty surrondings and some cheap champagne, sales is sales and the end result is getting your cash.

ADs have made the most of the market position in these best of times but as we now sit on the precipice of the worst of times with financial markets plunging, jobs undoubtedly being shed in the months ahead and a contagion which is nearing out of control with dire effects on population health and wealth, these same ADs who showed contempt for buyers will have the roles reversed.
