    Understanding Mercedes servive plans

I have just had a quote for the next service on my Merc, with the quote they offered me a monthly paid service plan, it works out the quoted cost would be less than 50% of the original service price,
has anyone else had this, it is like the service price is a complete con, the car is worth too much to not go full MB servicing.

Bought a Mercedes last year. Was just under 3 years old at the time. An A-Service was £700 (add £200 if you want diagnostics) and iirc the service plan wasn't valid if you had a service due within 90 days or something. I take it to semi local Mercedes specialist. Last service as an A was about £250 and this year as a B is £350. They collect the car tomorrow.

A is little, B is big. Basically. The prices above are pretty fair. Merc's take loads of oil so are a bit dearer to service than the average car.

    Really?

According to my local dealer, air filter, combination filter, plugs and gearbox oil are not included in the service price, even though they are on the service schedule.

This takes the B service up to just under £2000

However if I take a service plan out with them they are

The services on my E350 were never got to that sort of money. I think the most I paid was about £600 including a MOT.

My last B Service (via an Independent (very good BTW) was less than £500.

I should point out the B service pricing above for my car tomorrow includes an MOT. If it makes a difference it's for GLC 220D 4Matic. We're low mileage maybe 6-8k per year.

Scrap that, just got the bill for £650. Needed new wipers, Aircon gassing, new filters (I think for the Aircon), an oil change and some other bits. Needs two new tyres soon but I skipped that as I normally get them done at Costco.

More expensive than the Qashqai I had before this but I think that's to be expected.

You have to be careful with Merc servicing. I did some research and found the independents not really much cheaper. As you found out Wiley, they will quote you for the service, but then you will also need the 'additional items'.

We took the service plan and that means it covers everything that is due in terms of filters, etc.

It does work out cheaper and they will also collect / deliver or provide courtesy car for free (which would otherwise cost £50).

On the other Merc I didn't opt to go for it. I guess it is horses for courses.

Exactly right. I have timed the service plan to ensure the 'big items' service is covered. You can play around with the Merc online tool which tells you what could be due when.

Indeed. The service last year was only £250 but that could have been to guarantee my custom this year where they went in for the kill. They did collect and deliver but I'll check the invoice when I get home as for a quote to nearly double doesn't sit right. Fair enough if it went from 350 to 450 or maybe 500 but just over 650 is a bit wild. Either they don't know how to quote for a service when given the age, milage and the fact they were the last to service the car or they're milking it.

I got another merc dealer who isn’t owned by Jardine to quote me, they were considerably cheaper, another interesting thing they told me, when I bought the car I was told it was an ex Mercedes car, the other dealer told me that they supplied it new and had carried out all of the servicing.

I'm usually a bit cynical about things like this but a couple of years ago I had a big B service on my SLK55 - Was quoted £1300 by main dealer as needed transmission fluid doing at 40k plus also 16 spark plugs, the service advisor told me if I paid £1100 on the service plan that would also include the next A service too, so in effect a no brainer.

It's always worth asking about even if you don't want to make monthly payments but rather pay up front

It does seem that the Mercedes quoted service prices are a lie, they are playing the semantics game, when the buyer makes enquiries about service pricing prior to purchase the quoted prices seem reasonable, yet if its mileage or age related then it isn't a service item, of course this is rubbish. its a con and it is dishonest!

I’ve got a E class 220D which is due it’s B service in 2k miles. The car will have done 32k in 18 months. They’ve quoted me £425 including VAT for everything. I’ve asked for a discount on that because they did exactly that on its first A service. They quoted me £360 for that one and did it for £300.

I turned down a service pack when I bought the car because I felt it was to expensive. On my mileage they quoted me £55 a month.

    18x £55 = £990
    Service A £300 + B £425 (max) = £725.

If it needs things like air con regas etc then that won’t be done by them. Wipers? I’ll fit them myself.

They were very forth coming about a discount, I only had to ask once.
