    Speedmaster Mark 2

Saw this model in the window at Beaverbrooks a few weeks ago in their sale with a healthy discount. First time I saw one in the flesh. It looked amazing , especially the orange accents on the dark grey dial.

Does anyone here own one? Any thoughts?

I really like pics of the mark 2 especially with the orange accents, however I went to go and buy one and the orange was far too vibrant for my liking. I was quite surprised and it put me off buying

Edit: That pic doesn't show the brightness of the orange like I thought it would

There was a seriously cool PVD mkII with yellow hands on SC recently. I like them but never tried one on.

Date window ruins it for me

I prefer the vintage version - dial has better balance.

Worth trying one on, it's a shade thicker than a conventional speedmaster so you'll need to be comfy with that!

I also prefer the original, mainly due to my dislike of the added date window. However they're a great watch and was severely tempted when I found a preowned in a jewellers a few years ago.

It was much better than I expected and the bracelet is something else! Probably the nicest bracelet I've ever tried.

I went on and bought a vintage with black dial, but would still like a re-edition with racing dial. Can easily see one in my future collection.

They're a great edition to any collection. I wouldn't own one as a single watch as they can feel a little top heavy at times.

I'd prefer it without a date window, but it's not much of a distraction.

As mentioned, the bracelet is great, especially the micro adjustment.

    Fits nicely into the collection

Don´t own anymore, but I liked it. If I remember correctly this one had a quick adjustment inside the clasp as well,
which helped with a bit heavy case.

always fancied one of these and had a original 69 black as my very first watch. If I can find one at the right price I'd get one, or either the flightmaster

These are definitely ones to try on and spend time with before buying.

I wear a Speedy pro fairly regularly and I feel my wrist can just about get away with that.

Like you, I was interested when offered one from an AD at a very good discount but the Mark 2 looked like a Motorbike Helmet on my wrist.

I really like these. Just out of interest, when you say a healthy discount what are we talking here? Asking for a friend...

Wow, beautiful. Where do the non-reissues run if one wants to get one?

Thanks for all the comments. I guess I will need to try one on before deciding, especially if it’s top heavy.

Tried the moonwatch which didn’t look too large, wonder whether this wears larger?

Beaverbrooks had this in its sale at approx £3800.

I love mine but have to admit it doesn't get a lot of wrist time.
As someone mentioned above, wouldn't have it as a single watch but fantastic addition to the larger collection.

I have the original version (Racing dial/Orange accents) and it is one of my favourite watches. I can imagine the orange isn't everyone's cup of tea but I really like the boldness of it.

It’s a beauty to look at but doesn’t attract wrist time. I had one and loved to look at it but it was a lump. At first I thought I’d get over the weight.....but I didn’t.

The lug to lug width is only 46mm and with the curvature of the case shape the 42mm is extremely wearable but it is thick. The bracelet is a marvel, very comfortable to wear and due to the small links can be precisely sized for the perfect fit.

It does require, certainty for myself a very snug fit for the wrist due to the bulk of the case, not really a watch for wearing loosely. The mentioned watch is no longer available at the sale price stated but would not think it would be to difficult to pick one up brand new for similar or possibly less.

It comes with an adjustable clasp from new, but not a Seamaster clasp.

£2600 from a dealer isnt not too bad, but i'll have to wait till they become a little bit cheaper then i may take the plunge

Thanks all, this is really helpful.

Does anyone have a side by side picture of the mark 2 and the moonwatch? I’ve tried the moonwatch and it didn’t look too too large on my wrist. I wonder whether the Mark 2 wears larger given the shape of the case?

how thick are they, people moan about the dssd's thickness i bet its not far off this ones

Stunner of a watch! :) Wears well on a 7'' wrist. Also due to the short lugs. I really like the vintage racing idea with the new movement and the lumed bezel ! :)
