RJ - Romain Jerome in liquidation

It lasted longer than I thought it would, in part thanks to Marco Tedeschi.
But Alliance Investment Group SA withdrew its support, and 33 watchmakers are out of a job.

A link (in French, sorry, didn't find it in English)

    Uh oh.. it begins.

If China stops buying, even for just a quarter or two, loads of brands will be in big trouble.

Wasn't the brand only sustainable because someone was pumping money into it? I appreciate that this isn't as sexy an explanation as ohmygodcoronavirusisgoingtodestroyeverythingwelove .

Le temps seem to suggest they were close to balancing the books

Did I read that this is the case with Parmigiani?

I wonder if they can sell all their bits of the Titanic to Bremont

Sad to hear. 2020 could be a dark year for a lot of brands. Whilst they had some questionable design choices, we shouldn't forget where it all started - the Spacecraft. Cracking watch. https://www.ablogtowatch.com/romain-...t-black-watch/

I always thought that Yvan Arpa was both what put it on the scene and a kiss of (slow) death. But then I never like the philosophy behind 'Titanic DNA' (although the design of the watch was OK, I found the use of a sea grave as marketing material distasteful, to put it mildly)

I am sorry but I totally disagree. Who in their right mind would wear a thing like that? And how many times would they wear it? The whoreology watch press fawns all over these weird contraptions that for some reason unknown have come under the guise of watches, and oops one after the other go broke. There's a small bunch of them out there. Wasted talent.

The base is still an ETA, so the servicing should be fine and the watchmakers who created the module still operate, so may have parts. Whether styling appeals to you or not, there is some interesting watchmaking going on - better than the boring/conservative stuff being touted around by bigger brands.

"Normally a watch is a round object, flat with two hands. We are so used to them that they even got a pictogram status. And then in 1997 we came with URWERK making watches in our own way..."

I wouldn't think so, one of Parmigiani's core businesses is producing movements for other companies

Ah, here we are: “loss-making“ and “majority-owned by the Sandoz Family Foundation, a Swiss investment company”.

Romain jerome sounds too much like the 70s pornstar Ron Jeromy for my liking

It's sad news, I've always fancied a Pokemon (or the super mario, or possibly the rainbow space invaders watch) as a bit of whismical hologerie.
