Years ago at my then regular barbers, I was asked if I wanted by eyebrows done. I was unsure of what was to be done and to avoid offending, I said yes. The barber zipped across with trimmer and comb. Luckily he did not start threading.

Sounds like the kind of establishment allegedly frequented by MPs and Peers of the realm!
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.

We have a few of these tragics.
One of them actually wears a hat whilst cutting.

    Something like this?

My hairstyle days are long gone. I use clippers once a week to keep mine neat.

I've been going to the same barber in Covent Garden since 1990 (used to work in an office opposite). I have an emergency hipster backup in Berlin if I don't have a trip lined up. It peeves me slightly that a Berlin haircut costs double the one in the West End - it's all very well having cappuccino and beer on tap but all I actually want is a haircut.
    In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.

I use the wife's 'hairdresser' a local woman who's child is in my son's class. £10 for a fade up the sides and some scissoring on top to camouflage my growing 'monk doo' without resorting to the dreaded 'combover'. Used to go to an Italian man in a portacabin but queuing in the rain during winter was a pain to save £2. This way I book, turn up and it's done in a nice heated salon.
Previous to that I used a town center barbers where I did the whole 'wait for a particular guy' thing but he was very popular and it could take hours. Tried an expensive place once or twice but at the end of the day it's a haircut and paying £30 for some decor and a coffee seems reckless to me.

I found mine by looking at the reviews. Did a trial cut ie first time with them. Liked it and the barber. So I’ve stuck with them. Other times I’ve usually gone for ladies hairdressers that do blokes!
There’s plenty of hairdressers/barbers around to pick and choose. At least where I live.

I think I understand what you mean sort of, but what's a vintage (good) version of a short back and sides ?

Genuine question - as I think most modern barbers take on a short back and sides is a few goes of a clipper round the back and a trim on top.

You've got me thinking fellas in the 40's, 50s and 60's where getting a better style of cut .

Similar to this really, just a (in my eyes) extreme fade and overly long on top. Honestly it seems every bloke under 25 has basically this cut. I walked past a couple of barbers the other and had to double take as every single person had exactly the same cut. From the back it looks like a mass cloning experiment. Never seen so many hairless backs of heads
