    SIHH (Watches and Wonders) cancelled

    https://www.watchesandwonders.com/geneva/

    Expected but disappointing....
Will be interesting to see how the brands reveal their new watches now.

It never made sense to me that all watch brands would release models at the same time at these grand watch conventions

Imagine if the film industry launched every new film on the same day?

All very archaic and totally inaccessible to normal people

In any case, a number of brands had already pulled out from SIHH and Baselworld even prior to the flu epidemic

Maybe this year is a turning point for the industry, certainly feels like it’s about time

Agree - brands will need to think of a new strategy. And our favourite watch magazines will need to get cleverer about the way they report on new releases!

It's because traditionally basically all orders for the whole year were made at the exhibitions. Back in the day when there were no waitlists, quite the opposite brands were trying to push product out.... Even Rolex... These days with online ordering and social media, there's zero point.

It's a trade show, like you get in almost every industry sector. It's not meant for plebs like us.

Since modern communications have turned these trade shows into pseudo marketing events, Coronavirus might hasten them into a natural death.

Am I remembering correctly that Omega are already showing future models to retailers in confidential roadshows, with no one single large public unveiling in the year?

Most consumer product trade shows are accessible to plebs / the hoi polloi
