A tenner and I'll take it Menno!
Looks a nice one. I love vintage Seikos.
Sorry can't help with the price.
I own two of these watches. One with a black dial and one with a silver dial. But, I'm not wearing them! So it is perhaps to move them to another aficionado.
Well, let's start with the black dial'ed watch.
I bought the watch back in '09 and had it checked and serviced in the UK by Richard Askham, directly after I'd I bought the watch. My wife picked it up for her 'daily rotation' (As I've written before, my wife is a WiS herself - so no arguments when I buy a watch ) and she wore it for two or three years. She moved on to other watches like 60/70s Valjoux 7733 chronos etc and the Silverwave stayed safely in a nice box. Today, my wife is wearing the Silver Wave to check its accuracy.
Now, after so many years it's time to sell it to someone else.
The number on the case reads 44xxxx, that makes it an April 1964 watch. Produced a few months before the 1964 Tokyo Olympics!
Can you guide me towards a fair asking price?

there have been a few for sale on WUS
and they come up maybe once a month
I cannot remember what price they were advertised at.....but it would have not been anything out of the ordinary as I would have remembered
Obviously depends on condition

Great birth year watch for someone born in 1964. They appear on e-bay from time to time, might be worth checking out the prices of those that have sold.

went for $1900 in the USA and appears to be in a worse condition than yours. There's probably all kinds of things to do with collectability, is a plain case back worth more than yours etc... Probably worth consulting the USA and JDM rather than the UK.
Those early Silverwaves are lovely looking watches.
In the last year or so I've seen similar aged Silverwaves going for around £600 on a Seiko forum I'm on. They all had silver dials which may or may not be a factor. But then they didn't look in as good condition as yours.
Alternatively I might be persuaded to settle for a straight swap with my younger Silverwave which is far more suitable for regular wear
That would be a very high estimate, if you search for "sportsmatic" you get significantly lower priced results. I'm no expert so there's probably a specialist collecting forum that knows why that particular model went for that high a price, certainly it's worth researching just a quick google and possibly your watch is among the "soft divers" as mentioned here

there's a case back like yours in an article

I've no idea if he would be inclined to help out, but I would start by asking Eric at http://antiquewatchat.blogspot.com/ what the expected range of such watches would be. He's knowledgeable and very honest.
Thanks! I'll contact him.
I also recommend buying from him, it's a very enjoyable experience!
A couple of the black-dialed watches have sold for between £700 and £800 pounds recently on eBay, both in decent condition but probably both needing a service. If you add delivery and VAT to those auction prices (one a US seller and one Japan), you are nudging towards £1000. I would guess that the silver-dialed variations will be a few hundred less.

There’s four silver dialed ones in varying conditions on Ebay in the €500-700 range. There’s another silver dialed one at $1700 which seems a bit optimistic. There’s also a silver dialed one on chrono24, incidentally also from The Netherlands at €675. I would guess your black dialed one would fetch more, but how much I’ll leave up to the experts.
Yours is a great looking watch and one of the models that has greatly increased my interest in vintage Seikos recently.
