The Gronefeld brothers are Dutch watchmakers who have been producing the most beautiful pieces for few years now. They rose to fame quickly and are the current darlings of the independent scene but there is real substance behind the hype (and a bit of a waitlist to get a watch).
Their back story is solid (see their website) and the pieces are technically brilliant. They are more designers than technicians but their technical work is done largely by Andreas Strehler so it doesn’t get any better. Their signature is those breathtaking peripheral stainless steel plates; quite unique and an absolute pain to make and finish. Just lovely stuff.
The watch pictured is my fave, the 8 second remontoire which comes in about £50k depending on how you configure it. Just check out the dial side spinning brake on this video.....
