Seller could perhaps get a quote from MBE, fully insured, who use a variety of couriers; not cheap, but I'd have thought they'd beat that. It cost me under £100 to ship a £5k watch to the Netherlands not long ago.
Dear all,
A bit of help needed. I recently bought a watch from the forum (2.4 k quid). It would be the first time the seller sends abroad; he kindly checked with DHL and was quoted 159 pounds for next day delivery to Milan. Based on some previous experiences, this sounds a tad high... Could you maybe suggest some alternative insured shipping options with a somewhat friendlier price? That would be very much appreciated :)
All the best,
Christian

Dont go for next day go for 2 working days as it drops price a lot.
What's your concern Christian? Swift delivery or value of the watch? I recently used third-party insurance from Secursus for the first time. Took about five minutes to insure the parcel and works with something like RM as well I think. (Tip courtesy of Philjopa :))
Hi Christian. Having just sent a watch to you myself I can hopefully help! I used basic Royal Mail international tracked and signed and then insured the watch via my IFS infosure account. As you know the cost was nowhere near DHL prices. All in it was about £15 for a £1k valued watch. The insurance was only £3.
Many thanks for all the great suggestions! Looks like there are several alternatives, much friendlier price-wise. Will check with the seller so as to see what's the viable choice for him as well.
If there are any further ideas, please don't hesitate to share them :)
Cheers,
Christian
Hope you’re well, Christian. I’d try DHL again, it shouldn’t be more than £50-70 insured with a more relaxed delivery option. I couldn’t find an easier way to do it when I sent you the Zenith! Is the IFS thing easy to get set up on?

Dhl and ups work well in italy.
I ship out from there to eu and it's about 40 euros for 2kg parcel.
Insurance i have no idea...

transglobal express uk may be worth a look. I have used them and I would again, don't remember the max insurance value though.
Please be aware that none of these companies insure watches:
Not ups, not dhl nor Fedex.
You will always need an external insurance.
Even if they say on the phone they insure them you have got to carefully check their terms and conditions. They all exclude jewelery.
For comparison I paid £98 for FedEx next day delivery to Spain
Paid $30 insurance through inforsure also
This was for a £9K watch
For a watch of value next day delivery is worth it for me with a day or two less worry.
Shouldn’t you be more concerned with shipping to the Grand Duchy?
In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.
