Pioneer of modern music, a sad loss.
No age really (a year younger than me, but then again, a longer life than some) which is sad, but when I heard this on the news earlier I thought 'Who?'.
Having done some reading online, I'm still struggling to understand what people feel was so significant about him.
I don't pretend to be the most on trend person musically, but for him to be totally unknown to me while others clearly see him as highly influential seems odd and I'm wondering how he completely passed me by...

A true pioneer and artist - the world is a poorer place without him.

I would say for myself he bridges the gap between indie/rock music (that i was into) and dance tunes. In the late 80s early 90s music changed, genres mixed and the rockers began to dance, go to clubs and widen their musical horizons. As an indie kid who developed a love of dance and electronic (which still stays with me to this day) that's why he's important. Peace!

He tried to stay out of the spotlight intentionally. He was responsible/involved in loads of great music.
Perfectly put... I think that’s why Screamadelica was such an influential record.
That is one of the best tracks ever written, I have an album which is just different 12" remixes of that tuneIt was this for me.

A true production legend. An artist who left behind a catalogue of outstanding work.
His indie pop productions have been focused on by the media because that's what they know about and understand, but Weatherall was a massive influence on several underground music scenes for decades. I used to wonder how he found the time to be at the cutting edge of so many musical genres. He used to kick things off and then move on before they became popular. He was almost self-destructively anti-commercial.
A true artist and music lover. His death is a massive loss to our cultural life.

That's a good write-up.
Like it says, he could have been a multi-millionaire stadium DJ.
Instead, he would do a Saturday night at Freakin in York every year because he knew the lads who ran the (monthly) club and he knew they ran it because they loved the music. I have no doubt he did it for free.

I found myself working in a foreign land in 1991/1992 (in the days when you’d wait a week for the NME to arrive at the local specialist newsagent - what internet?)
If I remember rightly Screamadelica, Nevermind, Loveless and Bandwagonesque all appeared at about the same time over the winter of 1991 and kept me sane in an otherwise very lonely time in my life. For that I’ll be forever grateful.
