Do You Do Anything For Valentines Day?

I’’ve been married for 19 years, and with my wife for 27 years.

    I/we have never on VD;

    - bought flowers
    - bought chocolates
    - sent a card
    - had sex (specifically just because it’s VD)
    - gone out to dinner.

Not that we don’t do this stuff through the year, but never on Valentines Day.

    Who does?

I've always considered Valentine's Day to be the sole preserve of desperate idiots.

I may have sent a card to my mum when I was 8.

We go for a nice meal. Wife hates the fact it was just a commercial creation so she would rather a meal than a card

    Never had VD.

I hate going for a meal out on Valentines, as it’s an artificial feeling to me.

I don’t like buying cards, I’ll buy flowers if and when I like and not because of a day - reminds me I haven’t bought flowers in a long time!

Im hoping I’ll be spoilt with a meal this evening, but if not I’ll order in something.

I give presents as and when throughout the year, so again don’t partake just because.

    Nothing special here.

Thankfully I don’t need a special day to tell those close to me how I feel about them.
It's just a matter of time...

I've never done anything for VD. Load of old rubbish.

Mind you it is the wife's birthday the next day!

I thought the whole idea of Valentines was to send/receive cards from secret admirers?
    Cheers,
    Neil.

£35 of flowers delivered with a huge impact at her office

The only girl that’s had them she says

    Some very jealous ladies lol

She does lots for me - very supportive - so it’s a very small token of my appreciation

It's a real Hallmark holiday beloved of florists, card suppliers and peddlars of tat, the wife is a septic though so non participation not really an option, but did manage to have lunch out together yesterday to celebrate whilst the nipper was at a pals house, thereby saving on the no doubt inflated prices everywhere today who said you can't put a price on romance.

Maybe I should be romantic this year and buy her some “barely used” eau de parfum from SC.

    Hmm. Or maybe not

    send a card & that's it

we got out all the time so why would I want to go the one night when everywhere is full of people and they increase the prices (see also NYE).

fortunately my mate owns a local pub and organises a comedy night; so i'm off to that instead.

I do now I've got a girlfriend who likes Valentines Day. I make sure I do little things throughout the rest of the year too. Luckily I'm working until 10 tonight so we're off out for a meal tomorrow.

I had an unpleasant experience today when I drank the contents of the pint glass of water that I'd kept Mrs T-7's Valentines Day flowers in overnight, mistakenly thinking that it was a glass of water I'd poured for myself earlier :-(

Always do card, flowers plus chocolates.
Never, ever, go out for a meal on the day, probably because we can do better at home compared to what’s available locally.

It’s only one day in the year folks !

Always a card usually something else. It's my son's birthday so we often go out for a family dinner, often to the detriment of other people's romantic evening. One particular Valentine's night my kid's convinced the pianist in the restaurant to play Linus and Lucy.

After 23 years of marriage we still do the card thing and a small token but that’s about it. Not done the meal out on the night for years, and as my wife is involved in the floristry business we always have a house full of flowers all year. Tbh I think it’s more of a teenage thing - a special day that says ‘today you will be romantic’ is surely the most un-romantic thing ever?!

We got cards, I bought flowers too. Last night we didn’t bother with dinner but had a meal today instead outside of the prix fixe menus of disappointment. 11 years married.

I do get my GF flowers.

I don’t get her a card. I have stood there looking at cards and gone “ah jeez I feel sick” and I tell her that.

I do agree it’s BS waste of money, stupid excuse of a day too.

BUT she never had flowers in previous relationships and I can say she definitely appreciates it to the point she’ll go on about them all the time with a glowing smile and take a picture which will be her phone’s home screen background for weeks after the flowers have long died away.

I will say though, I’ve never bought supermarket flowers or cheap flowers as that just seems a bit half hearted to me.

To be honest though it’s how I got her number in the first place. I was in hospital, she was my nurse and I can only say we just clicked to the point (we both said since) when I left it was a sad feeling we would never see each other again. I thought about it for a couple of days after and just sent them to the ward with a note and nearly 8 years later we’ve still got the same ‘chemistry’

I drove to my stricken wife, sat in her car with a flat battery, in the middle of the night, with a set of jump leads, rather than making her call the AA.

    Who says romance is dead?

I actually forgot it was Valentine's day until I noticed on my way to work people carrying flowers. Admittedly, Valentine's day does kind of make me yearn for a relationship, but then I remember I have to focus on my goals and I have the appearance of a beaten troll.
